Sole trader vs Limited Company - low paying 3 month gig

It's been a long time since I was contracting, so I'm not up to speed on the latest stuff. I just came out of a perm role. Expect I'll be looking for my next one for 3-6 months. In the meantime, I've been offered a 3-month contracting gig for £382 a day. They asked me if I want to invoice through a Ltd company or as a sole trader. No mention of IR35. What do I need to do? Is it worth bothering with a Ltd? #ihaventusedthesearch #imtiredfromjobsearchingjusttellmewhatthe****ineed todothanks ..read more

Contract template for ad hoc pieces of work

Does anyone have a contract template they use to sell ad hoc pieces of work to clients? To be clear, this isn't the standard contract you'll sign with an agency on a day rate. This is a fixed fee type of work with a client directly. In the past, I've adapted contracts I've received from companies and used those. But, it's been a while since I did a side gig like this. I was also looking at free versions of Docusign, to make proceedings appear a little bit more legitimate. Any advice on those? Cheers ..read more

Plan B

Been on the bench for the whole of this year and starting to think I might want to pull the trigger on a new plan B. I have a property company (BTL) as my current side income but seriously investigating expanding this with some sort of self storage business. The amount of automation you can get in this area these days makes it a vaklid side business but with a much better ROI than BTL. Biggest issue I'm hitting is getting suitable land which may be the shhow stopper on the idea at least in the short term. Would be interested in hearing what the rest of you have your fingers into. BIK - Any benefits vs personal expenditure?

At the risk of being lambasted for not bothering my lovely accountant with this nonsense, and being too dense to fully comprehend the hieroglyphics on HMRC's site, I thought I'd engage the collective wisdom of CUK. ... I understand BIK is chargeable on expenses put through the business that are construed as also having a personal benefit e.g.: an ICE company car, and that it is charged at your marginal tax rate i.e.: if you're a lower rate tax payer, you'll pay BIK at the same rate. Are there certain situations where it's beneficial to put an expense through the ltd co rather than fund it pe ..read more

Today's my birthday, but do I take the day off from garnering reading matter from the furthest corners of the Internet? Of course not! It beats working, from which I have taken the day off The Snowdrop: Lost In the Arctic - Paul Brown relates the saga of the Snowdrop, a Dundee whaling vessel lost in 1908: ”Far across the North Atlantic, on a frozen peninsula in the Arctic Archipelago, the men of the Snowdrop were still alive… To survive, they would need to rely on the skills and generosity of native Inuit families, and the determination and bravery of a young seaman who would set off on an e ..read more
