Hello I'm a student working on a water main bid. The project is to install a 8" ductile iron water main. I'm struggling to find information on how long it would take for a crew or crews to trench through asphalt, lay pipe, backfill, and repave. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I talked to a local company that said trenching and piping would be around 150-200 lf per day at $150 per lf, but he did not include backfill and repaving in his opinion. Edit: the pipe is being buried 4'... Trenching and watermain question ..read more

We bought a house prior to it being built. After it was done the problems we had inside and outside were unbelievably. I started to think that we were just out of the loop and this is normal for new house track home construction. Then I started looking closely at the siding and referred to the installation instructions from the website and it was all wrong. From what I can see most of the contractors here in NWA they are not following all the guidelines. The homes built by our builder they... I'd like to talk about James Hardie siding ..read more

How do you guys get cast iron tubs out? How do you cut them? I run into quite a few of them. I've tried a bunch of different ways. Sawzall, forget the teeth, grinder I am always afraid of the sparks setting a fire. So I usually sledge hammer them in half and carry half out at a time. I thought about keeping them whole, but it seems difficult to manuver, esspecially if I am by myself. Dave ..read more

I need information on Asbestos abatement

I live in a condo in Seattle, WA. The neighbor across from me had a water pipe break in January 2024. The HOA hired a water remediator to work on stacks one and two. This contractor made several mistakes in his repair. Long story short, he said we probably have asbestos under the Landrey room sheet vinyl flooring. According to Washington State asbestos rulings, he shouldn't have touched the flooring for inspection. The flooring was not friable. He should have had a certified abater come out... Forgive me if I'm in the wrong place, but to say I am tired of bad information is a vast understatement. So, I figured I'd ask the pros. I have a residential metal roof with 3 screw holes where they shouldn't be. There's no lathing beneath them. How they got there isn't worth getting into, however, I will say that I didn't put them there. I'm in South Mississippi if it matters. I want to do this right. How do I proceed ..read more
