Russell James Ray is credited with the first canyoneering descents of the Barrancas, Sinforosa, and Batopilas. It was an endeavor that spanned several years, and included a self-delusional, non-first descent of the Barranca del Cobre. Jenn and her group ran into a mountain lion that was trapped in the canyon. It was blocking them form their last rappel. They went back up canyon and above the cat to try to get him to go back out of the narrows section he was in. it jumped 90 ft... They were then able to finish the last rappel and hike out of the canyon. The hope is that the Mountain lion was also able to hike out now that he was also on the canyon floor. If anyone knows if he is still alive, please let me know. To reach out to Jenn: Jenn. (@zennascent) | Instagram Rumpl Blankets: http://aspireiq.go2cloud.org/aff_c?offer ..read more

I am starting a mini-series about flash floods to raise awareness about the crazy desert rains. This episode I tell my personal story about a flash flood in Rock Canyon while guiding in my early days. Please know the weather for the drainage you plan to drop into.
I use Weather | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (noaa.gov) Local, National, & Global Daily Weather Forecast | AccuWeather and Local Weather Forecast, News and Conditions | Weather Underground (wunderground.com) to check weather during the monsoon season.

Z broke his ankle in Mystery Canyon. It hurt really bad!! He was trying to steam over a shallow pothole so he would get wet. He would have to get wet later in the canyon anyway. He said in hide sight he would have just gone through the shallow pool knowing he would have to get wet later. The risk was not worth the consequence that day. He was able to hike out with the help of his amazing Crue.
