Let us talk about cropping for those that are not familiar with the procedure. Doberman pups are usually cropped around 7-weeks. A vet that has experience with the cropping procedure handles this alteration as if it is a typical surgery. Yes, it is a cosmetic procedure (not invasive) and once pups are fully awake, they are playful and if they feel any pain you can give pain medications provided by your vet. They are usually put up on cups or foam for 10 days while the ears heal. The Doberman puppy pictured here shows what this can look like. After 10 days, stitches come out and ears are put o ..read more

Melatonin for Dogs Do you have an older pet that has lost his or her eyesight? Is your pet restless during the night keeping you up? Blindness is no reason to put your pet down. Likely what is going on is your dog is not able to decern day from night and does not release Melatonin at night for regular sleeping. Try Melatonin one hour before bedtime. We also discovered it helped our 14-year-old female Doberman with urgency peeing which was causing her to pee in the house before she could get outside. Doberman History Trained for the attack, the big, black Doberman patrol helps to guard the world’s largest department store. The pictures and Night watch at Macy’s store was published in the Look Magazine on September 21, 1954.  Produced by Gereon Zimmermann Doberman History. At dusk, an eerie hush falls over Macy”s in New York’s Harold Square. Freed of the noisy bustle of the day’s 150,000 bargain hunters (and 11,000 employees), the 46 acres of merchandise and mannikins become a shadowed world of make-believe and a logical target for thieves. But Macy’s is never unguarded. With the dar ..read more

How to post cropped Doberman ears-  I have posted this video as it is simple and easy to follow. Ear cropping of the Doberman  is usually done at approximately  7 to 8 weeks of age. For the first 7 days after ear cropping, your pup will remain in his rack (or cup), with sutures holding the edges closed. Between 7 and 10 days after cropping, the sutures will be removed, the cup changed. Again, for 7 to 10 days the pup will remain in his cup with the ears taped erect until all the cut edges are healed. Having the puppy’s ears up in a cup makes it very easy for you to keep the edg ..read more

Breeding for Improved Doberman health? by Denise Mellor, Denmel Dobermans Reg’d Explore a professional Breeders web site and more health info at this link: It is an expensive and difficult path at present breeding my beloved Doberman Pinschers, but improving on Doberman Health is a passion of mine.  I keep seeing posts from Doberman breeders who say to prospective puppy buyers “Dobermans are not a long-living breed”.  This comment seems to insinuate that the dogs perhaps all die at 8 or 9 like some in a giant breed might. This is untrue.  A normal lifespan for a Doberman is sti ..read more

Dog Sport by Shelby Frye Gemma the Doberman Fan Page There are many different kinds of dog sports offered by many different clubs; Agility, Obedience, Rally-O, Lure coursing, Barn Hunt, Schutzhund, French Ring, Nose Work, Dock Diving, Tracking, the list goes on and on.  There are so many options out there, that there simply must be one that you and your dog would love to try together.  But with so many choices and so much information it’s all a little bit overwhelming, so where do you start? For me it was in Rally-O, an AKC sanctioned trial or match.  I’m proud to say that my g ..read more

Crixus A Doberman on Facebook   Crixus A Doberman with A Facebook Page? I started a Facebook page for my Doberman Crixus because I wanted to bring awareness to the breed.  I love taking pictures of my dogs, but when it comes to my Miniature Pinschers vs. my Doberman, sadly there is a negative stereotype.  I have loved the breed since I was a child, but I had to work my way up to getting one.  I used to be a pet sitter and have also worked at the vet too before becoming a stay-at-home mother.  It wasn’t until I pet sat three Dobermans that I completely fell in love an ..read more
