April 18, 2024 If you like to write, as I do, it is interesting to see something you did from years past. The first reaction is, "Did I write that? It aint half bad!" Then, you're like..."Well, I'm still a hack, but I like it anyway." Today, I ran across an old post someone revived on the interwebs. I know all those writings are out there - somewhere - and its a kick to see one dredged up. This one was spotted today on Panfish on the Fly, where I shared it in... Finally back at work and was able to find a nice fish on my first weekend. Then I decided not to work any OT on Tuesday and headed out to thunder cove. Was into my backing with one large bone before he spit the clouser, did land this nice little golden though Hopefully more to come. I did see a 15ft shark cruising 20 ft off the beach with 3 monster GT'S and a 30lb black GT. Managed to switch out from my 8wt but only got one cast before they took off for deeper water as they saw me ..read more

I’m just starting out in fly fishing and have had 3 hours this week of professional tuition. I’ve just purchased a second hand rod but have no idea where to go from here. I’m looking at targeting rainbow trout in the uks lakes. is my fly line ok that I have in the photo below or do I need new? What leaders do I need? The line I used was thick when training earlier in the week and this looks to thin and circled up? Thanks everyone ..read more

Panfish Flies

These are some various panfish flies that I have tied & fished over the years. All are simple and easy to tie, so would be good for beginning tyers. I'm not including the full descriptions, as the photo should be enough to figure them out, but if not, I would be glad to answer any questions. I called these "Wigglers". Marabou or rabbit fur, chenille, soft hackle & plastic or metal bead chain eyes. "Forktail Ants". Not really an Ant, but that basic... Panfish Flies ..read more

Stonefly Nymph Pattern

This is another pattern that I had come up with many years ago. It's evolved a little over the years, as some of the materials are no longer available. I've used it primarily as a stream Smallmouth Bass fly, but have caught other fish species on it as well, including Brown & Rainbow Trout, and Largemouth Bass. It's another fly that is not difficult to tie. Hook: Togen's Fly Shop, Size 2 Curved Salmon Hook. Use what hooks & size you like, but... Stonefly Nymph Pattern ..read more

Since the forum doesn't have a specific section for bass flies, I'm posting this here. It's a fly I've tied for many year now, a Leech imitation. I've caught some good size fish on it, and it's frankly been the best Leech pattern that I've used. It's also quite simple and easy to tie. It's tied in the style of a Clouser Minnow, so the hook point is up. I'll often use straight shank plastic worm hooks for this pattern, but use what you like. Thread... Leech Fly Pattern ..read more

Hi all, My family holiday this year (June) will take in Slovenia & Croatia. I've managed to persuade the non fishing members of the family that a few days in the Slovenian mountains would be great fun. I'm therefore looking for recommendations on locations/properties that will allow me to sample the splendid Slovenia flyfishing and the others to walk/kayak/eat/sleep etc . All suggestions gratefully received ..read more

Hello to everyone, I have not fly fished for about 40 years but, enjoyed it greatly. Mostly fishing for bass, crappie, bluegill and perch in farm ponds. I am joining the forum because I have inherited a large quantity of fly reels and fly rods, some bamboo, and I am hoping I can upload some pictures and descriptions of the equipment in hopes someone in the forum might know the value of the equipment and advise the best way to try to sell them. Or, maybe someone knows someone in the... Assistance with appraising inherited fly reels and fly rods ..read more

Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending time here and hopefully contributing more... New Forum Moderator ..read more
