Hey guys I’m buying new fly line for fishing Sandy Hook. I have a Lamiglas GF108 9/10 with a Colton Torrent 789.
Im looking for input on what line to buy. My current thought is Rio Coastal XP 9 wt. But I also see they have Striper Specific line. Any input? Also I plan on buying an intermediate sinking line. I know it drops fast here. I’ve fished this area since I was a kid. Should I be using a sinking line. I already have a floating line. Thanks in advance. I’m also open to other brands and lines. So I got a new Sage R8 10ft 7 wt this past winter for throwing streamers off a ladder at Pyramid Lake. Distance is just the key here. And before you chime in with two handers and switch I do also have a switch rod I use there as well. I fished the R8 for a couple of hours and it just wasn't as fast a rod as I like. I toyed between that and an Igniter in the first place. So now back to wanting an Igniter.
So my question is for practical purposes what is the distance casting between a 10ft and a 9ft? Any real difference between them?

Some things are a hit or miss we definitely hit this one on out of yhe park ,we probably saw over 500+ stripers in the course of two days pouring in from the ocean on to the skinny waters 100% sight fishing.

So don't do that. Great line, and one that gets me thinking as I ice my elbow. I've fought tennis elbow for over 20 years, originally from tennis which I still play several times a week. I got it doing something intentionally that was not good technique and paid. Fast forward I started fishing this year in January for tidal browns with no issues, but as spring turns to summer I'm feeling some pain. Unlike past encounters though, this time it's in the early stage and I'm spending more time thinking about what I do. I recall others having this issue so I thought I'd share some thin ..read more

After that rather fruitless day hunting for the chub in the open fields I went back
troutfishing.
Again a sunny day but quite a chilly start and again that constant northeastern wind
blowing strongly over the land.
The pool in front of me had clear water and I could see some of the small shiners moving about.
More intriguing was however a silver shimmering from something larger on the bottom.
It was a trout and it just would not take any of the flies I presented.
The fish did not respond to a juicy mayfly drifting on top or a nymph or squirmy.
Last resort was to change colour on the squirmy ..read more

On Sunday it was off to the chub section for a second try at the chub.
First stop was just outside a small village where I had success in the past.
The plants at the bank were now about man high and you had to take
care where to step because of the holes dug by the muskrats.
The lack of aquatic vegetation was probably the cause of no visible fish.
I could spot nothing on the clear sand bottom except for one small fish.
That fish was target practice and it took the sedge I served with gusto.
Since I was not new to this spot I sought out the section with the most
cover where I spotted several m ..read more

I found a page about replacement tips on their website, doesn't show that they have them for GL3 fly rods, only for GL3 Conventional rods. Seems like the GL3 is no longer in production? If so, anyone know how to get a tip replacement? I've had that rod since the early 90s, it's like losing a family member (only a bit worse ..read more

The goal for today was to get a trout on a big mayfly pattern.
I spotted one trout upstream from me that came for the mayfly but I struck to soon ... fish gone.
Trout nr. 2 was close to the bank and hit the fly, solid hookup at least that was what I though.
It took one jump from the trout so get rid of the fly so no luck.
The third chance for a trout came soon as I spotted another one but it just would not
commit to anything I offered.
My last resort was to use a fly I had recently acquired ... the mop fly.
Had no luck with that pattern last week but today it was the ticket ..read more

Definitely a paddle board day, sooo let me try to break this down, I stalked this fish way up in the super skinny water she was almost belly crawling so I waited till it moved alittle deeper , she finally came out to 3ft of water where i was hoping and waiting , she then cross my path to my 11 heading to 12 about 50ft I made a 60ft cast btwn 12 and 1 made two hard bump with a pause that got her attention waited until she figured out there's something to kill! made another small bump and BAM! She went psycho with 6 aggressive head shakes.. it was insane! Helicopter guy was watching it all go do ..read more
