I am a California based pediatrician currently works four days a week at a general pediatric private practice. It’s a group practice with six other doctors, all of which are partners. I am going on two years out of residency and feeling burnt out. Practice also newborn rounds almost daily, dependent on the volume. We have nurses who triages calls during the day, but at least 10 of those phone calls filter through because patients want direct response from a doctor. We take overnight call once a week and one weekend out of the month we are on call from Friday to Sunday. One Sunday out of six w ..read more

Hi all, looking for some advice. I’m an intern and very out of my element in the outpatient clinic. Really want to do right by these kids and families but primary care really isn’t my thing. Anyone have any advice on books/websites/qbanks/etc that I could dive into to help me make it through this month without screwing anything (else) up? ? submitted by /u/anonymous_paramedic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Sports Med - when to refer?

Just a questions that I've not really had much experience with in practice, when do you refer to Sports Medicine? I've got a kid who's had multiple concussions and has gnarly post concussion syndrome who is very active in sports (has potential to go places, per parents). I steadfastly refuse to 'clear' him because of the brain injuries. Someone mentioned that Sports Med may be a better option to work with this patient, but not sure what they'd be able to do. Thoughts? Thanks submitted by /u/Brancer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, Moving from the a major midwestern city and trying to get a sense of what a normal salary in LA looks like for outpatient pediatricians. I am one year out of residency. My understanding/sense based on offers I have received has been that the farther away from LA you get the higher the salary gets I am more interested in FQHC/academic outpatient clinics. Salaries are assuming you work 5days per week, I am likely only going to work 3-4 days a week. So far at places I have interviewed: One academic center ~190-210k FQHCs 220-230 Kaiser ~230K (+all the bonuses for call ~20k) Private pract ..read more

Why is it dumb for a 2 month old to be undergoing treatment for an ear infection? Coresidents laughed when they heard that a patient being admitted for brochiolitis is completing an antibiotics course for an ear infection. submitted by /u/SunAccomplished7024 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey all, 2nd time ABP board test taker. I failed last year by a coupe of questions almost exclusively using the medstudy qbank. I got the PBR core concepts book and was planning on doing medstudy and the AAP question banks, but wanted to see if anyone else had any 'must have/use' recommendations that helped. submitted by /u/squishyz [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
