That Text Said What???

Has one text or email ever ruined your day? You know a text from a co-worker that questioned you or your authority.  Or one from your spouse where you could hear the negative tone oozing through the words that you read. Perhaps before the text arrived you were having a great day.  You were living your best life. You were “winning the day”. Then, in an instant, everything changed.  I’m sure you’ve experienced this but have you stopped to ask yourself why your day was ruined because of something someone else said?! Your heart rate increases, you feel tension throughout your body ..read more

What HGTV and Your Brain Have in Common
Darin Wilson

My wife and I spent Sunday being true HGTV house hunters.  We toured several houses with our real estate agent, named the houses,  and then gathered at the end of the day to talk about each one.  While some people may find this process exhausting, we love it. We both moved many times growing up, her around the world, (she was a military brat) and me within a 5 mile radius of my hometown.  I literally lived in 11 houses just in middle and high school.  My dad would build a house and while he was building we would rent another.  This continued all throughout my teen ..read more

Questions You Ask Yourself
Darin Wilson

Our brains like to ask us questions all day long.  This is normal.  But the truth is,  most of us don’t even realize we have these constant questions playing over and over each day or that we have the ability to do something about it. What I recommend is that you make sure they are useful questions.  You’ll know by whether the possible answers to the questions provide you with useful information or not. Q: What’s wrong with me. A: Most likely a lot. As you can see, this is not a useful question. Q: What do I appreciate about me, shortcomings and all? A: I am a great at orga ..read more

I Have a Question for You

I have a question for you. What do you worry about? With all of the craziness in the world right now and your current situation, what do you worry about? Is it your future? Is it your job? Is it your business? Is it your home? Is it your marriage? Is it your children? Is it your parents? Is it your best friend? Is it your weight? Is it your health? Is it your community? Is it politics? Is it that you don’t feel like you’re good enough? What is it? There is something powerful about writing down what’s on your mind. It brings clarity and the opportunity for solutions. If there is an area that yo ..read more

Get Unstuck

Feeling stuck in your life right now? I know it’s a pretty forward question and one that we typically don’t like answering, but given these uncertain times my guess is something feels stuck.  Maybe it’s your career, or your marriage.  Perhaps you haven’t spoken to your mom or dad in years and it weighs you down daily.  Possibly you find it difficult to relate to your kids, or you’ve been in your current job so long you feel like there is no way out? These are the questions I ask to my life-coaching clients and the reality is that a lot of people feel stuck right now.  It’s ..read more

Everything Matters
Darin Wilson

There is a simple saying that I love.  It’s only two words.  Two words that when taken seriously can change a person’s life, a company’s culture, or the dynamic of a family.  Two words that can influence a team and help set the course for a disciplined life.  What are these two words? Everything matters. Simple, yet profound.  When everything matters, well, everything matters! How you treat people, how you treat your body, what food you eat, how you approach your workout routine, how you approach your work.  How you talk to your spouse. By the way, when is the las ..read more

The Relationship You Want with Your Dad

Father’s day can bring up a wide range of emotions.  You might be full of gratitude for your dad.  You remember the lessons he taught you about life and leadership, and how he helped you grow into the person you are today.  You find yourself trying to be like him and live up to the example he showed you each day. It could also be a day of pain and bad memories.  You remember how harsh your dad was or how he set his expectations so high that you couldn’t meet them regardless of how hard you tried.  You lived in constant fear of him and you couldn’t wait to get out of th ..read more

The Power of Commitment
Darin Wilson

Well it’s June 15th and I have to ask… How many of those New Year’s Commitments have you kept? How about the ones from the start of COVID when you knew you had several weeks at home on the horizon? How are those going? Like most people you’ve probably struggled to keep some commitments. The commitments you made to yourself, about yourself. You said you wanted to get in shape, get up earlier, be a better spouse, do a special project around the house, or eat healthier. But at the end of a 3 or 6 month period you’re still uncommitted.  Why? The reason is that Will power rarely works. &n ..read more

Are You Scared to Speak in Public?
Darin Wilson

On a scale of 1-10 how self-confident are you? Or let me ask the same question, just slightly different. On a scale of 1-10 how self-confident are you, really? I bet your answer was lower the second time I asked the question. Why? Because you know yourself better than anyone else does. You know where you fail to keep your commitments to yourself each day. You doubt your ability to perform at work. You hate speaking in front of others. You dread having a difficult conversation. You want to remove the constant anxiety you feel each and every day. You long to love yourself. You want to live confi ..read more

Why You Should Talk to Yourself More

What was your favorite part of going to high school? Was it your exhilarating English teacher that you had at 8 am? Maybe your favorite Math teacher at right after lunch. For me, I loved after school when it was time to go to practice. Sure I worked hard in the classroom so I didn’t get killed by my parents, But I loved competing. I particularly loved my high school baseball coach. He was tough, disciplined, and knew the game unlike anyone that I had been around. He commanded a room. When he spoke, everyone listened….or there was a price to pay. If you didn’t listen quite the way he expecte ..read more
