I am just curious as how do unschooling families approach team sports like hockey or baseball for example? We are thinking about unschooling our 2 boys (2.5yo and 3 months) but DH still needs some convincing. He is really big with playing sports and he wonders how they could be part of teams if they don't go to school. He said the boys would feel left out or wouldn't not fit in with the neighborhood's kids who are part of teams in schools. Plus they may not be able to be part of any teams... Are there any unschooling mamas who have done more "schoolish" (for lack of a better term) training for religion? We are Muslim and have a young son (3 yo) are greatly leaning toward unschooling for all of the typical reasons. However we want to make sure we impart the knowledge about daily prayers, the stories of Islam, and importantly, how to read Arabic. In Islam the age of puberty is when people become responsible for knowing and practicing these things so I don't see us waiting until... Unschooling and religious knowledge ..read more

Famous celebrities are condition of fame and broad public recognition of people as a result of the attention given to them by mass media. An individual may attain a celebrity status from having great wealth, their participation in sports or the entertainment industry, their position as a political figure, or even from their connection to another celebrity. This forum seems rather quiet but I will ask my question see if anyone responds. I have two granddaughters who are unschooled, oldest went to school for a short period, youngest has never been to school. I don't agree with unschooling, but try and be supportive anyway. However the girls don't get any formal education and when I try to teach them reading, writing and maths their mother stops me, any books disappears. I am curious, how are they to learn such things as reading if they don't... Formal Lessons ..read more

I am mom to Emily (13) Jasmine (4) and Theo (4 months) living in a little UK village. I really want to do unschooling, to live an unschooling life, but my eldest has reservations. We have tried nearly all the different home school methods over the past 5 1/2 yrs and they always start off well then lead to resistance, and tears. I love the idea of unschooling and think it is the only way to go. When I asked my dd about her reservations, she informed me that yes it may be fun until she... For numerous reason, I am considerring asking my middle child if she would like to go to therapy. To make along story short - she is demanding, perfectionistic, over-reacts and is hyper sensitive. I might go with her to therapy - as I am sure my reactions play a part in things, but I am having trouble not over-reacting to some of her behaviours. It is affecting our relationship. I wonder how much of this is gifted, hormonal pre-teen crap that I should ride through, and if we need therapy or... Therapy ..read more
