Learn to Touch your Toes - BY TACKLING FOOT DYSFUNCTION In my last blog post, I explained that “How can I touch my toes?” is one of THE most commonly asked postural questions that come my way. To briefly recap what I said before, “one posture move like touching your toes tells you something about what is not moving and working well in your body. Often, the blame gets attributed to the hamstrings. “My hamstrings are so tight!” the person grimaces as they try bending forwards to touch their toes. This person may have also spent lots of time in fitness and yoga classes pulling their legs arou ..read more

Learn to Touch your Toes! “How can I touch my toes?” is one of THE most commonly asked postural questions that come my way. I am not sure why but, along with an ability to perform a deep squat, bending forwards to touch our toes seems to be one of the biggest markers as to whether or not we deem ourself mobile or have ‘good posture’. The ability to touch your toes goes both ways.  Just because you CAN touch your toes, it doesn’t mean you are mobile or have ‘good posture’ (it just tells you that you’re ok at pelvic extension, hip flexion and ankle dorsiflexion – which are just a coupl ..read more

3 Exercises for a Wonky Pelvis A wonky pelvis is one of THE most common postural deviations I see day to day. In my work as a posture coach, it’s extremely rare to see an aligned pelvis. In fact, I’m not sure that I have ever worked with a single person who has not had some form of disparity in their pelvis. Be it elevated on one side (giving the appearance/feel of one leg being longer than the other), rotated forwards (meaning one leg will normally stand further forwards than the other) or a difference in terms of the anterior/posterior position on either side (which will make the lower b ..read more

3 Exercises to Help Unlock a Tight Chest Do you have a tight chest? Keep reading this article to find out a little bit more as to why your chest might be tight and I have even filmed a 16 minute video routine (linked below) to help as well! Many of you who have found yourselves here may have already have heard of (or even read?) the amazing ‘Anatomy Trains’ book by Thomas Myers (the king of fascia and how our body is connected). Myers sees the body as connected through multiple chains of muscles/fascia/tendons/ligaments/nerves and bones rather than the old fashioned ‘attachment and origin ..read more

Posture Ellie's Discount Codes & Recommendations As those of you who know me will (hopefully) know, I don’t recommend or put my name behind many ‘posture products’. Over the years, I have received countless invitations to promote certain things that I consider mere gimmicks – posture braces, ergonomic chairs and other weird and wonderful contraptions designed to ‘help your posture’. I have always held my ground and said no. I will only promote things that make sense to me as a movement therapist and only work with brands I know well enough (aka have used myself) to whole-heartedly reco ..read more

Scoliosis – My Story

My Story - Scoliosis I have had a rather busy few years and I have not been looking after myself properly. Just like many of my clients, when I am stressed out and preoccupied, my own health and wellbeing takes a back seat. This has resulted in me allowing my body to develop scoliosis, which I am now in the process of having to get rid of. It’s rather annoying but a good lesson learned for me as I’ll never let this happen to me again (said from the privileged position of knowing what I need to do to get rid of it)!  I thought I’d share my story, as I know many of my clients and peopl ..read more

Tight R hand causes big release through L side of body! My 1-2-1 client kindly allowed me to share this video I took during a recent Zoom appointment. She has a L pelvic elevation (aka a hip hike) which has improved, but still hasn’t fully dropped during the 2 years we have been working together. She mentioned in her summary email (before every appointment I ask my clients to tell me what is going on/what they have noticed/what they have learnt about themselves etc) that when she clicked her R wrist she felt a release through her R arm. This got me thinking … could her locked up R hand be c ..read more
