Growing up music was always playing around me. I was born in Washington D.C. and have very early memories of the originator of the “Quiet Storm” Melvin Lindsay lulling me to sleep with his show on WKYS that my mother religiously turned on every night. I set a goal for myself last year to only ready BIPOC authors and I accomplished that goal. Taking a look back at everything I read, black women wrote well over 90% of the books that I read. Instead of buying books last year, I utilized the library. For books my branch didn’t have I placed holds on them and they were sent to my branch and I only purchased the books I loved. Shiny forehead is what I call “glass skin” and I’m quite obsessed with it. After seeing a lady of my certain age review it on TikTok with a shiny forehead I might add  I was sold. Happy New Year Friends! Last year I’m not sure I had many “visible” accomplishments, however there were so many  wins on a personal/spiritual level that I’m going to keep them to myself, but in a nutshell I am so very proud of myself for exhibiting so much discipline last year in so many things. Consumerism is a real thing. Not that I didn’t know but as I watched an influencer the other day do a night routine with no less than seven products that she all linked  while telling someone when they asked that she absolutely needed each of those products every night I started to think am I not doing enough with my skincare. The internet might have possibly, in some way subconciously convinced some of us that getaways need to be extravagant, but in my older age I am starting to see right through that narrative. This past weekend , my husband and I took a quick drive to Blue Ridge, GA which is  about 2 hours from our house.  According to all of the fall foliage maps this was to be the peak leaf weekend, but the early frost we got last week proved that a LIE. One thing to know about me, I’m going to get dressed. I added a new dress to my collection from Tuckernuck and I’m absolutely smitten with it. It’s super lightweight, easy to throw on and go, it has pockets, and most importantly as a popped collar girl, the collar speaks to me. I will say it is sheer as I’m sure it is more or less meant to be a coverup but since I do what I want, I’m going to be wearing it as a dress a whole lot this season, also on the website the piping appeared more red, but it’s really more of a dark salmon pink. I took the summer off. It was the decision I didn’t know I needed to make until I leaned into it. So good. I spent the summer lying around, chilling in the pool, reading books, and doing whatever my heart desired…within reason. I’m on the other side well rested, optimistic, and just feeling good. Coming back to this space more frequently to write,  air my grievances, share my purchases, what I wore, and document my life is something that while high on my priority list hasn’t been made a priority as I continue to navigate a pretty strange world that is slowly presenting itself as our new normal. After a real rocky start to this month, its like the first day of fall knew I needed to feel seasonal temps while observing a few rogue leaves blow across my yard to know its real. I love fall, hands down it’s my favorite time of the year for a multitude of reasons.  I’ve already scheduled our annual trip to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, I’ve started picking up a few fall items for our home and for my wardrobe.
