So I have several render layers and Ive optimized each one to only include the necessary primary AOVs needed. For the utility AOVs however, Im not sure if its best to render my cryptomattes, UV, depth, and position in a master layer just for those passes or include them in each individual render layer.

I brought my Maya-character into Houdini using an alembic SOP, and can't seem to get things to work. I first tried to create a proxy for the character by doing a timeshift then VDB then remesh then pointdeform, but the animation didn't get picked up properly and it got all wonky. Then I tried to just do a vellum sim on the original geo, but when I added a pin-to-animation constraint, the mesh exploded. Plus, there's a weird thing going on with the geo where one of the faces is angular when it should be flat (maybe just a display bug).

And if you are going to post why a vfx union won't work, or is a bad idea, and that's fine to have that opinion, PLEASE give actual examples of the issues, and not blanket statements of negativity.

I’m currently working in editorial at a not so big studio. I mainly work with conforming plates, completing requests here and there, running client reviews, and I/O duties. I am confident in using Hiero, little bit of Nuke and Davinci Resolve.
What other things should I be learning to progress further? The things I have mentioned above is more than enough to keep the editorial department running from my part.
So fellow editorial people, what other duties do you have as an editor at your studio and skills that you have developed through time?

I have little knowledge of how a union work and what it can do.
But I am curious if there's a VFX union and what it can do to help the current situation.
(By current situation I mean no project to work on and people getting layoff/ let go)
Or the urge for a VFX union is more about fighting for better work conditions in the future like writers and actors but won't necessarily help our struggle right now?

Hey all!
Working at a new studio and we're using resolve for alot of our workflow. That being said, I view fusion as a decent compositor and it would be great to keep everything in the Resolve pipeline. I don't think that's necessarily realistic...but then I had the question:
What does nuke do that fusion doesn't?
Not necessarily looking for a "if you're at a beginner studio it would work better or worse" kind of answer. Just literally wondering what does nuke have currently that fusion doesn't?
What does it do better? What is fusion missing that we'll run into?

Tracked a whole scene and made a mesh but now footage needs to be reversed, can I export it out backwards somehow? I'm exporting to Houdini if that matters, sorry if this is a dumb question I'm new to 3dequalizer and Houdini
