Hello my friends! {my posts may contain affiliate links, which provide me with a few pennies should you decide to buy something. There is absolutely NO extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting Farmhouse Quilts in this manner} I have to share a funny quote I came across the other day: Does January feel like that to you? If so, you are not alone~ I think many people feel that January is such a long, gray, quiet month, after all the excitement and color and warmth of December... Even though I do not like putting away all the cozy Christmas decorations, I do actually enjoy January, but ..read more

Hello there,  A few weeks ago I shared these adorable embroidery hoop ornaments I found on Pinterest in my Facebook group.  Unfortunately I couldn't find any instructions or a source, but there was a lot of interest in how to make one. So I experimented a bit and this blog post is the result :). Here is the one that I ended up making: These are the supplies I used to make the snowman design above, but you will have to alter your colors choices if you choose to make something different, of course! To start you will need the following supplies: a small embroidery hoop ( woo ..read more

It can't be!

Oh my, it can't possibly have been since May that I sent you my last blog post, can it? I do apologize for the very looooong gap! In my defense, May was a super busy month, and then summer really hasn't been all that relaxing, with visits from company, a couple of quick trips to Canada to visit parents, celebrating 3 birthdays, gardening, helping one of our kids pack up and move, as well as a myriad of other little time-stealers that kept summer from being the relaxing, have- all- the- time- in- the- world- to- quilt, kind of time that I envisioned. But I have decided that I am going to ..read more

A little bit about the Cutie Quilt Frame

Hello friends,  As promised, I am back with a closer look at a new little toy that I  treated myself to before Thanksgiving! I was seeing all these ads for the Cutie quilting frame by the Grace Company, and when I clicked on one of their videos they hooked  me! This is what it looks like: ( image from Grace Company) This quilt frame system allows you to place your own home sewing machine on a carriage, while you "hoop" your quilt on the frame,  and then you free-motion quilt! So your quilt is stationary and you move your machine with those handles you see at the fro ..read more

Hello again,  After last week's melancholic post, I am back to report that I'm back in the swing of things once again! Do you know what did the trick? Cleaning up the giant pile of mess that was cluttering up my space!  I had Easter items sitting out, as well as closet doors blocking my floor ( more on that a little later), and I think all that clutter inhibited my desire to sew. So after a great big clean up and removal of closet parts, PLUS having an easy pattern sitting out and waiting, I was ready! And here are the results: This was a super easy pattern to make, e ..read more

A sad state of affairs

Hello friends,  I realize it has been a while, but I am back today with a brand new blog post for you! Not only have I not written a blog post in forever, I also haven't sewn anything in a long, long time...( or so it feels to me!). I was starting to think I might have to pull out and use the dust cover to protect my sewing machine, something which I have never, ever done! What a sad state of affairs, don't you agree? Do you find that when you haven't sewn for a bit, it is really hard to get back into the groove of things? Today I went into my quilt room with the full intention ..read more
