I am brand new here and I should mention that I have very limited networking knowledge. Sorry for the length but I wanted give as much detail as possible but I tried to keep it organized Description of the problem: 1. I use MX linux version 21. I received an automatic update on January 16th from MX Linux for NordVPN after which I could no longer access a NordVPN server using the command line. MX Linux does not use SytemD. I don't know if that matters. I could not get a straight answer from Zendesk. 2. I could access a Nord server by manually using openvpn and a configuration file supplied by N ..read more

Hello friends I am running wvdial (ppp0) on a modem (/dev/ttyACM0) Mobile broadband on linux to supply internet to a small group of users. I want to use USSD command to catch the balance of the current 3G internet connection But for now the only solution that I have is to: 1- stop the wvdial (and ppp0) command in order to free the /dev/ttyACM0 device and then 2- send the USSD through the /dev/ttyACM0 device 3- relaunch the wvdial to run the ppp0 internet link again By doing that the users connected on that internet link are disconnected, which is the problem that I want to avoid. So my questio ..read more

Hi, I need your help how to setup networking properly, on linux to accomplish this what i want. i have laptop, which runs Manjaro. it's IP is 192.168.1.8, static in router. i have another laptop, from which i connect to this laptop via ssh. works as expected. okay. but then, i want to do some cool stuff, as programmer, and because of that, i wanted to have VM running, just for that (so it doesnt clutter my manjaro installation). so i installed KVM, QEMU, Virtual Machine Manager. installed Ubuntu Server. and in that VM, it's IP is: 192.168.122.63 i haven't touched Network tab in VMM, it's on de ..read more

Hello everyone, I'm new to Linux and I've started off installing a VPN in Linux (Ubuntu 20.04). I'm unable to access my VPN remotely, and apparently it was because I never assigned a Public IP to my VPN server. I was also told that I have to bind my public IP to my VPN in Linux for remote access. I used the LD_PRELOAD option found online but it didn't work either. Can someone please guide me in reference to the above problem. Thanks ..read more

Does anyone know if this is capable of being used as an access point? I can't seem to make it work as one under Debian 10/11. Instead of working as an AP, it seems to only act as another NIC, despite having bridging set up (correctly ..read more

I found a tar.gz file when I was researching how to add a modem to Ubuntu 8.10. It produced something, and I was told to send a mail, the mail was not delivered (their problem). In the meantime let's try to decode this! Firstly, ModemData.txt file ..read more

I am working on a headless linux box that goes into the field and collects data, then sends it up to our server. It runs mint 19 (tina). The box has a SIM card. I have a bash script that runs every 5 minutes to see if any data has been collected and if it has to send it up. The SIM connection can be spotty, and sometimes the connection is lost. I run this command to restart it. nmcli c up uuid <my uuid> Works great. However, each time I run the command I get this. Connection successfully activated (D-Bus active path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/9) Next time it ru ..read more

Hi, I am upgrading my custom board which uses a Cyclone V SoCFPGA from linux 3.10-ltsi to linux 4.14.73-ltsi and I am having difficulties in getting it connected to the internet. It seems to be a network configuration issue and that's why I am writing on this forum. (The official support is also extremely slow/close to non-existent). I get the message "failed to bring up eth0" when dhcp tries to assign an IP to the unit. It only works in one case as described below. Also some other observations are written below; NOTE: we have 2 sectors on the flash memory where we can store images. a) If we b ..read more

20.04 Kde Neon user here: I usually get online using my android phone as a tethering wifi hotspot. I have a TP-Link TL-wa501g repeater that I don't use as a repeater, but as a client: it's basically a device with an ethernet port that can connect to wi-fi. I can easily reach that device as a router, through its ip, and if I manually configure dns, my ip and gateway ip (the latter changes everytime) it works rather smoothly. Oddly, the same pc configures itself perfectly when I work with the win10 installation, but when I'm using linux And I set the connection to auto configure itself I get the ..read more
