Transporting Video Signal Over Optical Fiber

Hello Everyone, I have stumbled upon an issue while doing an application. In this application there is an existing multimode fiber which is installed. We will be using Sony PXW-Z90 and QuestTel's optical extenders. My application exceeds a one kilometer distance which is not supported by multimode fiber. Since changing multimode to singlemode fiber is not an option, I would like to know if there is an option that exists that doesn't require me to change the existing infrastructure to boost the optical signal. I am truly looking forward to a good response, John Moved to Networking as this d ..read more

I'm not looking to break the bank. I don't do this as a career but as a hobby and I'm learning something new every day. I have about 3/4 mile of cat5e and cat6 in my house for my whole house audio, networking, and cameras. I also work at my friend's house doing his networking, out at his shop with cameras and networking, and at his bin site networking and cameras. I also just got done doing another friend's cameras and networking, along with the same at my brother-in-law's place. All in all, I'm sure there are 5 miles or more of different cat5e and cat6 cable runs. Plus at these places, there ..read more

Ok, currently using a USB wifi, and looking at a couple wifi cards. I want something that is good, reliable, but also not over $60 at most. Here's one I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PCE-AXE59BT-magnetized-Supporting-Bluetooth/dp/B0C388Z522?tag=xdadev04-20&ascsubtag=UUxdaUeUpU1005154&th=1 From reviews and looking around the web, this seems like a decent one, and within my price range. What do you all think? Is there something where I could get more bang for my buck ..read more

Internet Slow on Only One PC in Home???

I have a computer I built a LONG time ago, and did a few upgrades here and there over the years. For some reason, the internet on it has been HORRIBLE lately. Every other computer in my home works fine; I can run my phone on a speedtest right next to it, and it hits an average of 500Mbps. Meanwhile, my PC is typically running anywhere between 25-175Mbps at any given time, but about an hour ago, it was barely hitting 1Mbps! I ran two tests a half hour ago, and they both averaged 25. I just ran two now, and they both averaged about 160. Nothing changed at all - that half hour was mostly me texti ..read more

What is max practical distance from wireless AP?

I've got an Aruba IAP-215 that I'm trying to find the max practical distance on. So far, I can't find what I want with bing. I found this datasheet: https://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/ds/DS_IAP215.pdf It claims 5 GHz 802.11ac and 2.4 GHz 802.11n. I'm debating if I need to move it to optimize location for wireless video cameras around property. Anyone have an idea? Is there a better/more powerful solution? I'm not above running a second AP to cover wireless cameras ..read more

The DNS in my router is set to 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9. The Windows PC internet connection also has DNS settings. Which is actually used when connecting to the internet from the PC? The iPad is set to automatic and the DNS server is set to my router. But this brings up a question. What if I am not using my router when out and about using public wifi? Should I set the iPad to manual and put in my choices for DNS ..read more

I need to set up PoE cameras on a utility pole (not town owned, private) and those cameras need to view the building. I'm considering running fiber from the office, underground, to the pole and converting to copper. Equipment that I've researched: Unifi Utility - This would power the switch and house it -- Power on the pole in a weather proof box USW-Flex Switch UFiber Outdoor Terminal Box - This would house the UFiber Active Ethernet UFiber Active Ethernet -- Would running a CAT6 from the Flex switch to this power it? Connect underground fiber to this Connect PoE Camera(s) to Flex Switc ..read more

WiFi Router Integrated Switch vs Stand Alone Switch Speeds

A week or two ago I posted a number of questions about a TP-Link AC5400 router I was trying to install. My only goal was to put the Comcast Xfinity gateway in Bridge mode, use it as a modem only, and use a much more competent WiFi device to eliminate long time connectivity issues with door locks, remote controlled blinds, and a garage door opener. I did indeed succeed with this goal using the TP-Link router and all these devices now remain reliably connected. However, I discovered something unexpected that now presents no consequential problem but I would like to understand it. After getting ..read more

I have searched this, now more confused. Up to date win10pro, and a new nas device. It's asking for network credentials, and to my knowledge I've never set any. I have 4 computers on my little home network, and I can access them all without any credentials. And I have up to date security software on all of them, as well as a strong router password, so I'm not overly concerned about security. I've disabled password requirement in network settings. Do I need to change them all to a private network? I've visited Credential Manager, don't understand what I'm seeing there. So tell me how it is I ca ..read more

Slow write speeds over my network

I've been copying files over my network and the speeds seem extremely slow. I get about 12Mb/s maximum write speeds and sometimes half of that. I have all cables Cat6 or better. There is a Gb switch between most devices. Gb network should be able to transfer at up to 125Gb/s right? I don't expect that but 10 ..read more
