I'm looking to add a set of contrast reduction filters to my arsenal. After doing some reach here on REDUser. I've narrowed it down to the 1/8 and 1/4 strengths of the Digicon or the Ultra Contrast Filters. From all the previous threads I've read everyone keeps saying the same thing. You'll get a smoother roll-off of shadows to highlight ratio, more filmic image, and that you can get pretty close to matching RED with Alexa or having your RED footage look like Alexa.
Does anyone have any test footage or projects that they've shot using either of these filters? I can't seem to find any example ..read more

I have a project coming up where I want to have a low contrast look to it. Three options to come to mind
Shoot on low con lenses like Super Speeds
Add an ultracon filter and modern lenses
Shoot (as usual) in log and make it low contrast in the grade
I'm curious to know what people's experiences have been doing this. Is the grade good enough for a compelling low contrast look or will I get something more authentic and interesting if I paired ultra primes and a filter, or just went with Super Speeds knowing that there will be tradeoffs in focus/detail ..read more

Hi,
Has anyone much experience shooting 2x anamorphic on scarlet dragon sensor? Unknown it will crop a bit. Also, is it only possible to shoot 8:9 2x anamorphic ratio on the red helium? Have sent seen it on any other red cam or sensor!? It’s lovely to shoot 16:9 anamorphic for live HD aspect ratio shows. Alexa mini is great at this. Yes I know I can crop / resize in post but I am looking for it to be done live straight down the sdi or hdmi pipe like the Alexa mini in 2x anamorphic 8:9 HD mode.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks!

Hi, everybody, I've been looking at test footage for various cameras recently and with almost every one I've seen, they all have some sort of weird bloom and light levels. The main suspected culprits I keep seeing are cases where LOG is used and the use of diffusion filters like Promist and Glimmerglass and it is getting to the point of being garish.
With LOG, I can't help but feel that it is being used incorrectly by many people and is seemingly replacing standard lighting and exposure practices that should be learned and utilized regardless of camera medium. In the case of increasing availa ..read more

For the following:
Mk1 Zeiss Standard Speed t2.4/t2.2
Schneider Cine-Xenon and Cinegon t2.4?
9.8mm Tegea t2.3
24-480mm Angeniuex t9
I don't want to spend too much money! Would be about ten adapters...
Also looking at the Raf non-permanent adapter. I have an Alexa with a Leitax mount. Would need to machine it a little deeper. But could use this and not adapt anything on the lenses. Thanks ..read more

Hi guys, this is my first post in this forum but for a while have been digesting a lot of the valuable information contributed by the members here regarding all aspects of filmmaking and gear. I recently have invested on a couple of cine cameras for myself and some gear and will be starting to put theory into real world application.
I am preparing to do a fun little shoot for a friend of mine who owns a gym and would like to incorporate some of these Spaghetti Western crash zoom that Tarantino uses now and then:
