To start the week Lindie Naughton brings us all the Irish endurance action from the weekend just gone.(Monday 25th March).
Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC ) and Shona Heaslip (An Riocht AC) were the winners at a well supported Dunboyne 10km held in perfect running conditions on Sunday (March 24).
Tobin make his intentions clear for the start of the race and had already built up a ten metres lead when the race came into the town centre only a few minutes after the start.

To start the week Lindie Naughton brings us all the Irish endurance action from the weekend just gone.(Monday 18th March).
Brian Fay (Raheny Shamrock) finished less than four seconds off the Irish record when clocking a a time of 27:43.45 in the elite 10,000m at the ‘ The Ten’ track meet in San Juan, Capistrano, California.
The time puts Fay second on the all-time Irish list behind Alistair Cragg, whose Irish record of 27:39.55 dates back to April 2007. Race winner was Fay’s Nike team mate Grant Fisher in 26:52.04; Fay finished 22nd.

If there is one thing that Podium is able to deliver, it is fast and competitive races. Usually, they come with little or no fuss, fast times on a fast course. The SportShoes Podium Festival took it up a notch, whilst maintaining that most important factor. Cormac Dixon (HFCS Rathcoole) proved the class of the field in the boy’s senior 6km race at the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country, held on a damp and dank day in Tymon Park, Dublin on Saturday (March 9).
Dixon, who is a member of Tallaght AC, was part of a lead group that included Billy Coogan (Kilkenny CBS),Sean Lawton (Colaiste Pobal Bantry) and Noah Harris (ETSS Wicklow).

Belgrade Bound
On Saturday, Wollaton Park played host to the final meeting of the British Athletics Cross Challenge and the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships. After the English Championships were cancelled at short notice due to flooding of parking, similar issues were thankfully avoided in Nottingham. There was a lot of action at World Indoors, but that wasn’t the only place Irish athletes were flying about. Lindie Naughton reports.
Redemption for the small Irish team at the World Indoors in Glasgow came on the final day when Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC) and the 4 x 400m women’s quartet both made finals.
Lavin ran a personal best 7.90 secs to win her 60m hurdles heat. In the semi-finals, she powered to a brilliant second repeating her time of 7.90. An hour later, she lined out in the final, where she finished a creditable fifth in 7.91.

A quieter weekend with some exciting action in Portugal over the well know cross-country championship course in Albufeira. Lindie Naughton reports.
Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC) made a surprise appearance at the European Club Champions Cross-Country Championships, in Albufeira, Portugal on Sunday (February 24) finishing eighth in the women’s 9.28km, with a time of 32 mins 21 secs.
McCormack will compete in her fifth Olympic Games later this year —-about a month before celebrating her 40th birthday. McCormack was the European cross-country champion in both 2011 and 2012.
