Is my air filter too restrictive? I first choose the cheap one at home depot blue color for 99 cents but that is MERV1
So I chose now the next up MERV5 but now whenever the air sucking starts, the filter concaves inside proving that it is restrictive. So should I go back to MERV1 the blue color cheap one?
If this is too restrictive then how do some people use MERV5 and above sometimes I hear MERV10-15. Do they have a different set up ..read more

I have a 1840sf ranch home all brick that is 12 years old. It had a 3-1/2 ton unit that worked. I had a HVAC company quote and install a York 4 ton 17 seer modulating condenser model HMH72B481. They also installed a 5 ton York air handler AVC60DX21. In heat mode the unit runs for 5-6 minutes than the fan goes into a very low speed mode for 8-10 minutes before shutting down than restarts 8-10 minutes later. When running the sound out of the vents are extremely noisy and where the air return is, the sucking noise is very noisy as well. Room temperatures are not consistant and I'm worried about m ..read more

2014 Trane AC 5 ton system with touch screen lcd thermostat
Reading the manual, the thermostat has a 10 year battery for keeping time in event of a powerout. The thermostat is run by a remote 24 vac transformer. There are also 3 AAA batteries in the stat. The manual says they are for armchair programming of the unit. It says you can remove them or leave them in. I am guessing they provide prower so you can sit and program the stat but are not needed after you plug it in. Does anyone know if I am interpreting this correctly? I just removed the unit from the wall to check the batteries after 7 y ..read more

Good Moring Everyone
,
I am hoping to get some help. My carrier infinity unit would not heat. Once I opened it , I saw ALOT of moisture (see pic). I dried everything but it still did not work.
At first I could see thermostat indicating (...gas heating) but nothing happened.
So here is what I did:
1. Bypassed thermostat (ran alligator connector on board R to W1)
2. That would start the blower for about 60 sec or so but inducer would not start
3. I checked voltage and I was getting 128 Volt to Inducer.
4. At this point I noticed water slushing inside the inducer, so I took it out and dumped bu ..read more

Hi all, new member hereI just bought an apartment with a pretty ancient central AC.
the control board is made by Airwell. The thermostat is made by Electra-HK. I tried searching for tech specs on both units but had no luck with Google.
I would like to replace my thermostat with something more modern, but I'm not sure how to get started. I'm attaching photos of the unit, in hoping someone can give me some tips about what kind of system this is and what my options are ..read more

I have an Aprilaire 768 on my furnace. It is not doing an adequate job of humidification. I suspect that it is not passing enough water onto the evaporator. I ran it for a few minutes and then opened it up. The extruded aluminum evaporator was wet from the top to about halfway down.
What should the approximate flow rate be?
What's a good way to measure the flow rate?
Where is the restriction in the water path that reduces the flow rate?
I could test the flow by disconnecting the tube on the outlet side of the solenoid valve. But 1) I don't like to unnecessarily disrupt fittings, and 2) if th ..read more

We are removing a Nest and replacing with a simple thermostat.
I thought I had it correct but I’m not getting anything to turn “on.” Neither heat, cool, or fan set to “on”
This Nest was installed prior to me moving in so I have no previous history.
System is central a/c (Amaña) and gas furnace with Lennox evaporator coils.
Here is the previous installation of Nest wiring at thermostat.
here is the wiring info for the new thermostat, Emerson 1C26-101
I found the heat anticipator setting to be 0.7a and set the new thermostat accordingly.
currently have following:
