New construction home. Framed but not drywalled. Windows installed. I'm looking to install the security system myself. I am a big fan of Home Assistant which I understand the Honeywell Vista 20P has an integration using via Envisalink (eyezon EVL4 module). I'm happy to wire as much as needed although I would prefer not to drill into window frames. I do not need central monitoring although I do intend to have it; I just want the ability to use the system, get text/email/app alerts... Honeywell Vista 20P Shopping List ..read more

Dsc 1864 slow response to zone closing?

I installed an 1864 and once it was up and running, everything worked great. Suddenly one zone is VERY slow to respond to the zone opening and closing. Its a door using a recessed remote. I can open the door and for the most part it responds instantly. But more often than not when I close the door there is a several second delay before the system registers the contact closing. I tried resetting the panel. I tried just holding a magnet to the contact. I still get the same thing. Has... Dsc 1864 slow response to zone closing ..read more

House insurance premium reduction for cameras

If you have cameras operational, ask for a reduction on your house insurance premium and you might get it. Many insurers have a reduction for a central station connected security system. I asked and argued that a good camera system is an effective security system. Got a net premium reduction of around 10% by way of a credit towards premium. Enough to fund an additional camera, hopefully each year going forward. YMMV, and it will depend on your insurer ..read more

Looking to replace an old Swann system and add additional cameras. Not looking to spend a fortune but don’t want to cheap out either. Right now I have been looking at Hikvision Dahua and Reolink. Everyone says the Reolink is terrible at night but they seem to be the easiest to buy. What’s the recommendation? And if hik or Dahua where’s the best place to buy? Thanks ..read more

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Hi all, thank you for the trove of information here, I've been trying to process it all. I'm advising my HOA in the installation of some cameras to be able to track vehicles entering our subdivision. I've already had my hopes dashed trying to do this with a lower end camera system (you'll never guess the brand!) and am now here trying to do it right. We have internet (5g) and power at the entrance of our subdivision. We also have a well placed tree near the road and a corner...
