Why are modern wrestling fans so obsessed with Japan/Japanese culture?

AND BEFORE SOMEONE SAYS THIS IS A RACIAL THING, IT'S NOT. This is a genuine question. I've noticed this obsession among hardcore wrestling fans about Japanese wrestling, wrestlers from Japan, and anybody who comes to WWE/AEW from Japan is automatically over as hell. No matter what they do, it's deemed "charismatic". People like Asuka, Maki Itoh, Kairi Sane, even the men like Hideo Itami and Nakamura were talked about on this site for years as the next star. Before it was just random matches where you saw Mansoor twice a year beat a main roster guy and legends in a random match for a pay day. Now we have significant storyline development (like the Bloodline today) and title changes happening where before it was a non cannon skippable show to just a regular PLE that you can't miss if you don't want to miss any big match, title switch or story... Why do people throw things into the ring when Cody loses?
Wrestling Forum

First it was rubber chicken and now it's a water bottle. Whenever Cody loses, people throw things into the ring. I have only seen such behavior during sports matches. Where people get upset when their favorite team loses and people throw stuff after getting upset. And I can't recall other matches where such things happened in the past 10 years or so. What do you think ..read more
