Early Transfer of Fixed Rate Cash ISAs. Sensible?

I've been reviewing my wife and I's cash ISAs and note that we have a few fixed-rate ISAs with low interest rates (eg, 1.2% and 2.1%).  We are obviously locked into these for a while yet, but, given the number of cash ISAs with much better interest rates around at the moment, I am thinking about ending these early and transferring the funds to a cash ISA that pays a decent rate of interest. Obviously, we are going to take a hit in terms of lost interest (120 days for Coventry, I think) but 120 days at 1.2% will soon be offset with an ISA that pays 5% plus. If I had £50,000 invested at 1 ..read more

Full transfer of current year subscription only ISA

Hi there, I have recently used an ISA to wrap work based shares coming out of a scheme. Once in the ISA I sold and withdrew a proportion that I needed personally. There is now a cash balance left in this ISA which I wish to transfer to a cheaper platform - this platform only accepts partial transfers from the current tax year subscription (despite the law changing). Given I withdrew and 9k became 5k - I assume the platform provider would still consider the 5k (the whole balance left) moving over as constituting the whole years subscription? TIA ..read more

RCI bank not in MSE 2 year accounts

The RCI bank 2 year fixed savings account at 5.05% is not in the MSE top accounts list. Does anyone know if there is a reason for this. Also I note that there a quite a few threads from a few years ago where people were dissatisfied with the account opening procedures and communication. Is there anyone who has opened an account recently who can give your experience and whether you can fund from your linked account immediately and don't have to wait to receive an account activation through the post ..read more

Power of Attorney correcting mistake

Finally completed multiple LPAs with and for family. Our certificate provider made a slight error in one section - life-sustaining treatment section 5, where instead of putting his full name after his signature he repeated his signature. I immediately saw it, and got him to put line through it, initial it and write his full name in the box. I could have got the form reprinted, but I knew the person making the error had just to initial it and make correction, so  I was happy to leave it at that. Now that I'm about to post multiple form sets I've checked one of the official guidance pages a ..read more

Trouble opening Zopa account

Zopa won't let me open an account - because I already have one! Many years ago I had a Zopa account, finished with it, thought it was closed. Now I want to open an ISA with Zopa. Went to register for an account, Zopa said I appear to already have an account, please log in, if you don't remember the password click 'forgotten password' and we'll send you a password reset link by e-mail. Clicked 'forgotten password', entered my e-mail address for the link, never received the e-mail. Tried again. Still no joy. Tried Zopa's chat, they advised I would have to send a copy of my passport to their doc ..read more

Santander Edge Saver

Hi all, I opened a Santander Edge Current Account (no direct debits to avoid paying the monthly fee) and the attached Edge Saver on 7th April. I was expecting my first interest payment yesterday but haven’t received it yet. The interest payment on my 5.2% Easy Saver arrived as normal. Before I contact them just thought I’d ask if anyone else has had a problem or is it because I’m not using the current account correctly. I know other forumites do the same but have Santander caught on and now not paying interest on the Edge Saver unless you use the current account as you’re meant to.  ..read more

Tax on interest (again!)

I know this subject has been done to death - but I still find it confusing. Assuming earnings are: 12570   tax free band  1000    PSA allowance  5000    Starting rate for savings So if I earned 18570, there is no tax to pay If I earnt one pound more, does the "Starting rate for savings" disappear...? 12570   tax free band         1   taxable income at 20%  1000    PSA allowance  5000    Starting rate for savings ?? Meaning that the extra £1 cost would cost me 20% * 5k = £100 ..read more

Who remembers Peter Young?

While clearing out a pile of old financial papers I came across an old newspaper article dated 1996. I was instantly transported back nearly 30 years. The private yacht I was on has just started transiting the Suez Canal. With little else to do I started reading a 4 day old Telegraph we had taken on at Port Said. There on the financial pages was a big spread on Peter Young the manager of one of my funds. Ah those were the days when fund managers were colourful ..read more

Rent2rent scam. Losing sleep

I can't sleep for worrying. I recently found out my OH has been investing money with rent2rent companies. He tried to explain how legitimate they are, and was looking for a way to make money money as he thinks ISAs are not enough. I tried to calmly explain that he may have been scammed, which he didn't accept and said I just didn't understand. I think asked him if he would feel comfortable telling his friends or parents about these investment 'opportunities' and he would not, so i think he might understand that he could have made a mistake. I don't know what to do and can't sleep.  He ha ..read more
