Yesterday I came across some Influencers on YouTube who proclaim to have achieved the challenge of not buying anything non essential for one year. I am inspired by these people and wondered if anyone on here had tried this challenge or not? Maybe the site should set up a Monthly challenge and see who is able to do this ..read more

So just a bit of a blog about my experience today in finally deciding to change our broadband provider and save us pounds each month.
Just to say, that having realised we are paying exorbitant monthly costs for Sky TV and Broadband, even though we have been loyal members for over 10years, we are now going to save costs by changing to Virgin Media for our Broadband, where we should get triple our current broadband speed, and getting £75 bill credit off an 18mth contract, and then use just...

Just wanted to share this trick I have made used on a few occasions when booking holiday lets. If I am using a Holiday Letting Agency eg. Vrbo, Cottages. com etc, you may find that once you have booked online through the agent, you then get direct access to contacting the owner. The owner maybe using several letting agencies to advertise their properties. I have been able to bag better deals from liaising directly with the owner, who has advised me to then go ahead and cancel the letting...

So, I have been thinking recently - what LEGAL tax rules, tips and tricks should everyone know about when it comes to money making/saving?
A few I personally think people should know about:
1. You can earn £1000 per year from your property without having to pay tax on it (I'm still working out the best way to do this)
2. If self employed, ensuring you claim EVERYTHING you use for business on your taxes (like I just ordered some headphones that I will be using at least 50% for business...

I don't think this tip will come as a massive shock to anyone...it is pretty standard.
But I just cannot get over how much money I have saved by using a combination of meal planning and food management.
After rent/mortgage, the biggest expense for most of us is food. I often see people posting about ways to get cheaper food, but rarely see people talking about how they can minimise waste.
Personally, I have started doing much better meal planning for me and my family. Not actually with...

With electricity costs going up I wanted to share a small way to save consumption. Apparently clothes steamers are cheaper to run than the steam iron. According to this webpage they heat up quicker and remove creases quicker https://www.propress.co.uk/steamers-versus-irons/ "the steamer heats up faster, and the steam is more powerful so creases fall out faster". And apparently they can save you trips to the washing machine, and also the dry cleaners. In terms of wattage this page says...

Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to post this?
There is a really common mistake in two areas of Stamp Duty that 'normal' people make rather than professional landlords.
One is paying a 3% Stamp Duty surcharge on a 2nd (buy to let) property that is not fit for human habitation. If the property is purchased in the last 4 years then you can claim this back either yourself or using a company like stampdutyrebates If you want to know what qualifies check out the sites blogs but...
