Guard kidnapped at pot production facility

I'm curious as to how the initial confrontation went down, but they're keeping that part of the story quiet. Not his fault; multiple armed suspects showed up. This is the new (old) thing in Seattle - it's easy, it's profitable, and they rarely get caught. (And, if they do, light sentences, so, back on the streets in no time...) https://www.fox13seattle.com/news/se...juana-facility ..read more

Best Security Guard Movies

I know we did this several years ago, but I figure we gotta lighten the mood a bit. I still like "Armed and Dangerous" (1986) - while it is a formula '80s comedy, and some of the gay jokes would be offensive now, it is still a way too true portrayal of contract security guards. (Classic line at the gun range: "So, if a guy is lying, and you know he's lying, can you shoot him?" Instructor: "Use your best judgement." ) Was never a fan of the Paul Blart movies; I never thought Kevin James was that funny, and the character is kind of dark in some ways. "Observe and Report" (2009) was dumb and mea ..read more

Why we can't have nice things, example #137

He should have just shut up until the police arrived, or let her go (come on, it's Walgreens - how much could she have taken?). If he detained her (or gave the impression that she was not free to leave) than he's gonna get nailed on false arrest. And for gosh sake, pick a badge - A) you don't need two, and B) at least match the colors ..read more

And now I gotta worry about flare guns

We recently confiscated a loaded and cocked flare gun off a guy. I honestly didn't even know this was a thing. The advantage to them is they are not considered a weapon in Seattle, they are a "signalling device." The disadvantage is you have to go to a marine supply or outdoor store to buy one, and it's $100 you can't use for fentanyl. Ah, the decline of western civilization... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpFMmH1_y58 ..read more

Don't Be This Guy Please Don't Be This Guy I worked with SJB for 3 years at an empty FedEx Warehouse. I'm pretty sure he was drinking on the job. I didn't necessarily care if he was drinking on the job except that he wasn't very good at hiding the evidence which made all of us culpable. After FedEx moved out of the Warehouse only SJB sat in the company car. Everyone else sat in the dispatch office. One night after I relived SJB I went to inspect the car and found 3 empty cans of beer in the gutter next to the car. I'm not going to lie, I fully intended to throw those cans in the ..read more

NPR fluff piece on retail theft

https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1197953024 So, even NPR can't take it seriously. The problem is the retailers whined so loudly about it in 2022 and 2023, demanding the government do something. Then it turned out that they aren't losing as much as they say they are, part of the issue is bad inventory tracking and internal theft, and everybody tuned out. But the more brick and mortar stores lock up merchandise, the more customers they will lose. My son tried to buy a pair of jeans at a big retailer. Waited 10 minutes for a clerk to unlock the rack, get the jeans, and then be told the dressing ..read more

Guard gets detained for impersonating

https://autos.yahoo.com/security-gua...130000821.html I am very reluctant to post this, since I'm veering into Night Rider's wheelhouse, but this guy is truly a classic wannabe, and a sad example of why we can't have nice things. The video is not great (something on the cop's uniform keeps blocking the bodycam), but you get the gist of the incident. At 18:30 (if you want to spare yourself from the whole, painful video) he slowly reveals his reasoning...which is even sadder. I unfortunately have worked with guys like this in the past. (Best one was the guard who argued with the responding off ..read more
