I have made up the sentences below. (1) His child receives $50 in a family allowance every month, so he can buy some snacks after school. (2) His child receives $50 in the family allowance every month, so he can buy some snacks after school. (3) His child receives $50 in family allowance every month, so he can buy some snacks after school. (no article) Some of my non-native friends think "a family allowance" is correct.
