Now, this is quite interesting in a lot of ways, so please don't ignore it or rush to judgement. There's a lot to unpack here, and there are multiple episodes already released, with more to come. So I'm going to ask everyone to keep their comments to the particular video, in this case episode 1
I'm sure many MAPpers will know of Sensei Seth, Icy Mike, Raaaamsey Duey etc, and like me will have found much to value in their youtube content. These guys are pretty well respected, come from a...

One of the by-products of being switched on and "aware" to self defence concerns is that you can get false positives.
Situations you thought warranted action that turned out not to be a danger. A stranger following you home who just happened to be walking the same way as you for example. Someone approaching in the street who's genuinely asking for directions.
I had a funny one the other day.
I was walking my dogs in the woods and heard raised angry voices ahead. I couldn't see people, or...

THREE GENERALLY ADVISED ACTIONS FOR AN IMPROVED OUTCOME
• Never let your attacker take you to a 2nd location.
• Make as much noise as possible – shout “ help, rape, police”
• Fight back if possible.
what empirical evidence is there? That these strategies are likely to achieve better outcomes?
Be advised that individuals who have experienced sexual assault may read this thread. Please post with due care and attention.
This thread is intended to specifically discuss empirical evidence...

A lot has been written about pre attack indicators and always will be as it is the only chance to maximize one’s chances to take appropriate action. Reconizing attack indicators can stop attacks, avoid injuries and prevent death
However, what if their aren’t any and there is a sudden explosion of violence? That seems to flies in the face of the evidence/ thinking. Or are some so subtle that one cannot pickup them within the split second time before the assault.
What put me to write this...

Anyone got advice on what to do with some problem neighbours?
They aren't aggressive towards us but they have extremely aggressive and abusive arguments with each other to the point where we are worried about the safety of people living there. It seems like a crime waiting to happen.
It's an older couple and their adult son and it appears to be between the mother and the son.
Effing and jeffing loud enough to be heard 50yds away in our house across the street. Goodness knows what it's like...

I had heard about Dr. Cheng dying to save others in yet another shooting here in the USA. What I just found out is that he was a Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Sifu. This line from the article (link posted below) really stuck with me.
Rest in Peace Dr. Cheng.

Hi,
I used to be a keen member of MAP, but over the last several years have simply not been engaging here... SORRY
I recently made a quick and dirty video which initially was just for me - as a reference source for ideas for a forthcoming seminar that I'm delivering... but having made the video, it was only a matter of half an hour to edit it and throw it up on YouTube... So, if you are interested:

This is an idea that I hear perpetuated a lot. Even my own sensei goes on about this like "the range of our sparring is different from the range of an actual situation."
Que the other students nodding along mindlessly.
Can't say I agree. You can usually tell when you're about to need to defend yourself and at that point you typically still have a lot of distance to work with.
I would even argue that if you've let the other guy get close enough during the posturing phase that the...
