Clarification on Safety Modifications

I've read the comments you've made several times about the way disabling a safety device on a handgun could be used to cast someone in a bad light by a prosecuting attorney. Would that apply in the same way if the alteration was done with factory parts and was in line with other models of the fire arm? The example I'm thinking of would swapping out the safety/decocker on a "F" model Beretta 92 or PX4 with a factory decocker only lever making it functuon as a "G". Thanks ..read more

Glock 43 capacity

Mas, In 2015 when the Glock 43 single stack came about it was the hit of the year. In time it seems to have dropped off on popularity for the 43X, P365, Hellcat and others. I have two questions for you if you are able to answer them. 1) Are there any cases of civilian or LEO shootings with a 43 where they ran empty with a 43 and had a poor outcome? 2) do you personally still feel the 43 is a viable gun? I know Georgia State Police reportedly issue them to all their officers as a back up/off... Glock 43 capacity ..read more

In past discussions, I know I’ve mentioned to you that I really like the 9BPLE by federal period I’m down to my last five boxes so I decided to get some more. However, I came across a really good deal on this version. My understanding is the Illinois state police and other law enforcement agencies used both the Winchester version and the federal version. In your experience, is there a major difference between the two? From what I’ve been reading, it seems as though I’ll be well served with... Winchester Ranger, Illinois state police load ..read more

Self/Home Defense with a Suppressed Weapon

I have been a huge fan of suppressors for many years. I own several, along with a few SBRs, all just for fun. But I have long been thinking that a suppressed weapon at bedside would be a very good practical idea. After all, I can imagine how difficult it might be to speak with a 911 operator when one ear is ringing and the other has a torn membrane after dumping a mag of 124g +p rounds, or worse yet, a few 5.56 rounds from a 10" AR15 SBR. Assuming that it's a justified shooting, and the... Self/Home Defense with a Suppressed Weapon ..read more

Hey Massad, Im thinking of getting a gen 5 30. I love the 45 auto pistols. Even though I mostly shoot 9mm pistols these days. Im wondering if you have shot a gen 5 30? Or better yet have you got one to call your own. What ammo would you use for personal defense in a 30.5? Thank You ..read more

Tough decision

Good evening Mas, I wanted to get your perspective. As much as it pains me, due to the fact that I’m trying to save up for a house/a place to live my fiancé, and I have to downsize and do what we need to do financially. Part of that means downsizing my Firearms collection. i’ve decided that, I will only keep one big bore handgun. It’s between the Glock 23 G5 and the Glock 30 SF. The nice thing about the 23 is, it’s more birthstone because, I’m seeing that 357 Sig barrels are now available... Tough decision ..read more

Hi Mr. Ayoob, I was wondering if you have any experience with Kimber 1911s in terms of durability/reliability? I have a Kimber Custom II LW and looking at using it for concealed carry/home defense but many self defense trainers seem to view them poorly. I don't want to carry a firearm which will not work reliably in a life or death situation ..read more

Good morning Mas, I have a question that you may be able to help with....... For CCW for personal protection (non LEO use) are there any real benefits for using a Red Dot Optic? I think most such events are at very close range and very fast time frames.......wondering if red dots offer any real advantages in these situations. Do you have access to information on actual encounters that would help with my question? Thanks, Jim ..read more

Penetration OR expansion?

Mas - for the first time since my Army days (70-71), I'm considering a .45ACP handgun and am looking quite a bit at the Glock 30S for its size and concealability, along with the versatility of using optional high-capacity magazines from the G21. I have yet to shoot one of these guns, so I don't know what to expect from the recoil impulse. I currently CC a G27.5 with either the stock .40 S&W barrel or a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel. My other options consist of a Taurus GX4 or a Ruger LCP... Penetration OR expansion ..read more
