Has anyone got or used a tongue and groove machine with engineered wood boards? I tried cutting a groove using the table saw, made it, but it is not a simple task, and I presume the tongue could be done with the router. But if I had a machine then I'd be able to use many more offcuts (eg removing sections with knots etc ..read more

I need a few. The usual-suspect websites are awash with hundreds of different makes, all the same. The problem is if you're churning them out by the gazillion at low margins, I can see the temptation to switch from using the finest chinesium to B-grade, or to skimp on the plating, or to shorten the bit which goes into the hole in the side of the cupboard. Can anybody recommend any good makes or suppliers? Would prefer brass, and as I only need 8, I'd prefer not to have to buy 100 ..read more

Pocket doors the type that's housed within the partition…we have used the portman kit with block board door What's your experience with them? I'm installing 4 for a client. One has failed; it's got stuck shut. I haven't got enough of a handle to force it open. I'm trying to find the root cause. Lucky for us no one was on the inside Meanwhile, I wanted to check if they are reliable. What's your experience, good or bad? Thanks ..read more

I want to check I'm not being unreasonable. We are in the process of having a kitchen fitted - a very long drawn out process but that's another matter. The kitchen designer designed a jib door to a hidden pantry. Which sounded great. The idea is that it looks like an ordinary cupboard door but when you open it you enter in to a pantry/utility room. Because o the location and the design the door has to open inwards. Note that this is entirely different to every cupboard door including the... Read more ..read more

I have rental properties and tenants often don't notice or care about leaks under the sink until it becomes a major problem. I am thinking of lining the inside of the cabinets with something like Fablon or possibly vinyl flooring, which would be more durable. Any tips please ..read more

Waterproofing kitchen upstands after fitting floor

Just fitted some LVT in the kitchen and had to cut under some upstairs/side panels to slide the boards under. Am about to fit the plinths (which I've painted the edges of to give some protection against spills and mopping) but am left with a bare edge on the upstand. Don't want to silicon it as it's a floating floor and meant to expand etc. What's the done thing here? Don't want to leave it as bare timber but not sure what I can do without risking the floor ..read more
