Will this corrugated pergola roof plan work?

Hi all, I am a novice at DIY. I have a sloped pergola and would like to attach clear polycarbonate corrugated sheeting to the open top to create shelter from the rain. I'd like it to have an overhang at the front to increase the amount of shelter, but I have read that 'a maximum overhang of 70mm is recommended' and I am not sure why. Is it because it would get caught in the wind and torn off? Or that 1.3mm sheets are not rigid enough for the overhang and it would sag...? I am sure I have... Floor levelling

We've been doing a fair bit of work for a customer who's house was built around 1780. The ground floor is stone flags, and is mostly cock on level. There's some concrete floor extensions over the years, and these are not level. The 20 year old, 8m x 10m main kitchen extension had an oak herringbone parquet floor laid by a flooring specialist. He poured latex levelling compound, then a layer of thin foam stuff, and the 22mm oak parquet. When we installed the skirting, we found the floor was... Floor levelling ..read more

2 Mitre Boxes (back to back)?

Hi Im after a couple of mitre boxes 100mm high which i can screw down to a board (makeshirt workbench) so that I can do some accurate timber cuts for garden. The 2 mitre boxes i would position apart to suit the desired wood width (then screw them to the board) I could move them closer or apart for different width wood lengths. I only need to do 90 degree cuts mainly. The 100mm height of box is important. If there is any suggestions on perhaps a kit which has the 2 boxes (above) and a... 2 Mitre Boxes (back to back ..read more

Birch ply for doors???

Hi, A customer has asked me to clad a wall using ply and run vertical 12 batons up the wall. I will need to form 3 doors into the wall, again, using the batons so they look like part of the wall. The biggest door will be 750 mm x 1980 mm. I am thinking about using 18mm birch ply with 125 kitchen cabinet hinges for the doors but I’m concerned that they may warp over time. Does anyone have any experience, advice or any better ideas to achieve this look? Many thanks Kris ..read more

I have a Multiyork bedroom pine chest of drawers, probably manufactured in the 1990s. One of the large full-width drawers has dropped down a bit and I can't open the drawer beneath that drawer without manually holding up the broken one. The brown painted metal wheeled runner is slightly distorted and I want to buy the necessary replacements. Photos attached. 400 mm overall length 1.4 cm - Width of top surface of runner 0.6 cm - Width of wheel track Can anyone advise me what product I... Replacement old wheeled drawer runners ..read more

Ive recently had a survey carried out on a house im going to be buying to live in. Part of the survey has flagged up cracked/splitting risers on the stairwell from underneath the stairs, these cracks have had braces screwed into the risers to stabilise it. I was just wondering if this is a really big issue and what would be the eventual outcome of leaving them as they are in the long run. Thanks for reading il post couple of pictures i have received to make it a-bit... Stair Joinery/ risers splitting ..read more

Hi, not sure if this is the correct forum but someone can advise me. Had bathroom done 1 year ago and about 1 week ago noticed a darkening at one of the seams ( boarding runs across the way) when I wiped it I noticed that the boarding had come adrift from the wall, all the way up. Thus is a shared internal wall, shower on the opposite side. Contacted installer who states it must be dampness/mould. He then said wall was wet when it was installed. Surely he wouldn't have installed it on a damp... Kerradeco board coming away from shower wall ..read more

Hi Folks I have a hallway which i need to install an inside door solution. It is 1.38m across, and will be on a strikelock or maglock electronically controlled. I figure I have only a few options. 1) Install a wide door e.g. 910mm, with a glass panel to the side, plasterboard underneath as normal. 2) Install two very skinny doors as in a 'double-door' situation (I don't think is practical) 3) Install a normal sized door hinged to a 'half' sized door, where I'd have the option of opening...
