A new species of Tapinella Enderlein, 1908 from Uganda was described and named Tapinella zirobwensis n. sp. It was collected near Zirobwe town, in agricultural lands with eucalypt plantations and bushes. The type material is deposited at the National Museum of Natural History, Sofia, Bulgaria. Only a female specimen was collected and described ..read more

Different agro-ecological conditions have a great influence on the phenotypical expression of yield components and grain yield. Besides this, their relationships are changed, too. In extreme wet conditions of the year, with large amounts of precipitations during the most important development stages, phenotypic differences and the relationship between the most important yield components and grain yield are less pronounced. Coefficients of variation, correlation analysis, and cluster analysis were used to determine the performances of advanced wheat genotypes under different agro-climatic condi ..read more

In the present study, morphological variability and differentiation of 13 Achillea species, including 11 from the Achillea section Achillea sensu lato (A. chrysocoma, A. clypeolata, A. coarctata, A. collina, A. crithmifolia, A. distans, A. grandifolia, A. millefolium, A. nobilis, A. pseudopectinata and A. vandasii) and two species from the Achillea section Anthemoideae (A. ageratifolia and A. lingulata) from Serbia were analyzed. Morphometric analysis included a total of 9 quantitative characteristics from the vegetative and reproductive plant parts. Multivariate statistical analyses reflected ..read more

Honey plants are characterized by the specific chemical composition of nectar and pollen grains, which depends on the physiological characteristics of plant species, ecological conditions, and anthropogenic pressure. In total, 100 honey samples were analyzed according to the Rulebook on methods for the control of honey and other bee products of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The melissopalynological analysis included plant identification based on the micromorphological characters of pollen grains and the number of pollen grains for each identified plant. In total, 31,183 pollen grains were detected i ..read more

The Republic of Serbia is one of the few European countries without a national database of recorded fungal species, so documenting and publishing data on fungal diversity is of outmost importance for our country. The presence of fungal specimens of Tara Mountain was examined in the following localities: Mitrovac, Predov Krst, Kaludjerske Bare and Zaovine at each site in summer and autumn during 2021 and 2022. A total of 320 taxa of fungi were recorded during this period, 10 of them are included in the Serbian List of Protected Wild Species of Fungi: Boletus edulis, B. reticulatus, Cantharellus ..read more

The alfalfa seeds intended for marketing must not contain any seeds of the dodder (Cuscuta spp.), because it is a quarantine weed in Serbia and the world. Cuscuta spp. are frequently found in natural alfalfa seeds; nevertheless and because of this, the seed must be processed, i.e. cleaned of weeds. The paper presents a study of seed size variability of Cuscuta spp. of four seed lots of natural alfalfa seeds originating from Banat, Serbia. From each of the four examined seed lots of natural alfalfa seeds, a difference in seed size was determined for 30 seeds of Cuscuta spp. per lot. The differe ..read more

Epipactis purpurata Sm. and Leontodon saxatile Lam. are reported as new species in the flora of North Macedonia. The first one is found in the forest area near Bezgaštevo village, southwest of Berovo, and the latter in the central part of Kičevo, on the quay of the Sušica River. The collected specimens of L. saxatile are perennial plants with shortly beaked inner achenes, clearly belonging to subsp. saxatile. New localities are reported for the following eight rare plants: Aconitum lycoctonum subsp. neapolitanum (Ten.) Nyman, Bidens frondosus L., Carex tomentosa L., Dittrichia viscosa (L ..read more

Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) represents a global health problem. The EGFR signaling pathway is very important in the initiation of different human epithelial cancers and plays a key role in colorectal carcinogenesis. Considering the role of EGFR as a mitogenic inducer, this study aimed to determine the frequency and type of mutations in the EGFR gene and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of patients with CRC on the territory of Southeastern Serbia. The genomic DNA of patients was isolated from formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues. The presence of mutations in ..read more

This study evaluates the antibacterial and antibiofilm properties of essential oils (EOs) from Citrus lemon (L.) Osbeck, lemon; Citrus reticulata Blanco, mandarine; Nigella sativa L., black cumin, and Foeniculum vulgare Mill., fennel, using the disk-diffusion, broth microdilution, and tissue culture plate methods on 11 bacterial strains, including the multidrug-resistant (MDR). Results showed that tested EOs exhibit antibacterial effects, that are stronger in Gram-positive bacteria. The widest inhibition zones were achieved with the black cumin EO against MDR Staphylococcus aureus. Values of t ..read more

Nutrition is one of the main processes in living beings because it provides energy. Amphibians are an essential link in food chains, but they have not been sufficiently studied. It is believed that most anuran larvae and tadpoles are omnivorous, but the trophic status of many tadpoles has not been precisely determined. Microplastics (MPs) are one of the major threats to aquatic ecosystems and can be ingested by various groups of aquatic organisms, such as plankton, shellfish, fish, and amphibians, but current knowledge of MPs occurrence in these aquatic organisms is still scarce. In this resea ..read more
