I hope to become a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in children and adolescents. I would ideally like to focus on trauma. Can you help me decide what program to choose or how to compare? Has anyone received email communication from Guelph MRFT or MP? They said successful candidates will be contacted first early this week. It might be too soon since it is only Monday morning but I can't stop myself from checking my email every five minutes. I thought to channel my energy out on this forum.   ..read more

Hello, I'm 14 years old. I do poorly at school, although I have been told and continue to be told that I am very smart (peers, (Even the math teacher, although I am in a class with C's and D's)). I went to special clubs related to computer technology, which ended up being different. There is only one thing in the club (Python programming) I took 1st place in the competition, where I went for 3 months and competed with children who had been going for 1-1.5 years. When I was little (Although still now) I was told that I am very hyperactive and cannot concentrate on things that I don’t really lik ..read more

LIU's PsyD status

I have heard that LIU had some serious problems with their PsyD program the last few years, but I do not know anyone personally who went there. I have heard that the cohort size has been too large, the change in faculty was chaotic, and the accreditation may be in jeopardy. I do not have any of this information confirmed, and it is difficult to tell from the APA website. I reached out to APA and they could not provide any useful information. On paper, it looks like a great PsyD program (Understanding the pros and cons and costs of PsyDs aside). I was wondering if anyone knows anything about th ..read more

Have you or people in your program gotten pregnant during the course of a PsyD program? If so, can you please share your experience, what year it occurred during, and advice for someone who is planning on having a pregnancy at least once during the 5 years. Specifically information about missing  class time and time at externships due to child birth, complications, etc.  ps. I am not expecting any sort of maternity leave or any special treatment. Please refrain from sharing your judgements on having children during graduate school. I am simply asking for advise and people’s experien ..read more

Hi there everyone, I am 5 years post undergrad, and I've decided I really would like to pursue a PsyD. Performing research doesn't really fascinate me and I am definitely more interested in the  didactics realm of psychology and therapy. My undergraduate years were rocky, not because I slacked but due to some trauma where I really should have taken a few semesters off. I stuck with it and was able to graduate and get the piece of paper, with a cumulative GPA of 2.63.   Since graduating I have been a nanny, an intake coordinator for a children's play therapy clinic, a teacher's a ..read more
