I just received an email from a hiring manager saying a job that I accepted last week has had the start date delayed by a couple of days to a week due to HR conducting random audits on some hires (me). Is this a common thing and what does it even mean?

ThrowRA but need advice. Our teams merged recently and I’ve just started working with my coworker about 6 months ago. One night we went out after work with 3 other coworkers for drinks. We went to a few bars. At the last bar, we were all pretty tipsy. I will admit it wasn’t my finest moment, since I didn’t have dinner, the drinks really hit me and I hadn’t drank in a while so I forgot moderation. I vaguely remember hitting on my coworker, telling him I liked his hair but that’s it.
Next Monday at work he was acting weird and avoiding me. I spoke to him in a one on one virtual meeting a few da ..read more

I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some outside perspectives. Today at work, I ended up Googling the word "revenge porn" to prove a friend of me that it is not "sex revengr" I did this out of genuine curiosity. Afte confirmng the term, I immediately closed the tab.
For context, I’m a staff member at a university in Canada. The atmosphere here seems pretty relaxed, and I haven’t heard much about strict monitoring. However, I can’t shake off the worry that my search might trigger some alert and potentially lead to an investigation or disciplinary action.
Please let me know who serious this ..read more

I work for a large library system in NY. I have worked here for over 12 months. I’m currently pregnant and in the process of getting approved for FMLA for my pregnancy.
I have quite a few prenatal appointments and my manager will only approve my use of sick time to attend to them “if there aren’t any issues in the branch that day.” This usually refers to scheduling issues due to low staffing levels. If one person calls out that morning, she now believes she has the right to revoke her approval of my time off to, let’s say, leave the branch for two hours to go to my OBGYN.
I have also been loo ..read more

I’m in California, and currently there’s a bill before the state Senate that is opposed by my employer as well as our industry trade/advocacy group. An email was sent to all employees stating that we’re all required to contact our state senators with a message opposing the bill, and that we should have friends and family do the same. They’ve previously sent these messages out encouraging us to contact our representatives, but this is the first time it’s been outright required. They even said they’ll be tracking who does and doesn’t participate (it’s through VoterVoice - basically a platform t ..read more

Atlanta, Georgia.
Context:
I quit on 04/19, no 2 weeks notice given(I honestly couldn’t), I quit effective immediately.. I started December 4th 2023 as a sales rep for a State Farm agency, salary + commissions. On 04/19 I had my last paycheck (which includes commissions of March and my last two weeks worked). Now I check on my bank account and my ex employer reversed the payment. Yesterday we had a talk and he told me I owe him money for some days off I took (5 to be more specific ) and that I wasn’t entitled to them, even tho he approved. So he told me that overall I would be owing him aroun ..read more

Am I reading this incorrectly or in the wrong here?
Text from company handbook: "Paid parental leave taken under this policy does not run concurrently with leave under the FMLA/ state applicable leave laws; therefore, the leave will not be counted toward the 12 weeks of available FMLA/state applicable leave per a 12-month period."
My company offers paid parental leave for 12 weeks. Our benefits coordinations are contracted through a third party, and I put in my leave request with the third party. I told them I want to take my full FMLA leave and my full paid parental leave from the company, e ..read more

i'm currently a sophomore in college majoring in business management concentrating in HR. to be completely honest, i chose HR because i didn't really know what else i wanted to major in besides social work. i chose not to major in social work due to how stressful it is and the pay. financially, it's not the type of life style i want. i like to help others and want to make sure that's in my career too.
what made you choose HR? what are benefits it working in HR? what do you actually do? is HR a good field to work in as an introvert? if HR isn't for me, how difficult is it to enter a different ..read more

Hi everyone, Thanks in advance for the feedback. I have two Bachelor of Arts degrees (journalism & German studies) and took a break from the workforce for eight years to take care of my kids. Various life events required me to get a job as soon as possible last August. I got a temp job as a customer service rep at a call center. I can’t stand the work but figured it was an easy way to put an end to my career break.
A few weeks ago, my supervisor told me the company would like to offer me a “permanent” position. She said the benefits would be the same, but I’d still technically be working ..read more

Hi everyone,
Currently I’m doing a background check with sterling, and I noticed Resume Discrepancy Service which I never met before. What do they do in this part? Should I upload my updated resume if a few info on my orignal resume is not accurate? Thanks!
