There is a place hidden in the heart of Dolomites, 1900 meters above see level. It can be reached by an impervious path around 6 kilometers long, which starts from a peaceful and welcoming forest and tricks you into believing it will all be a walk in the park. But mother nature likes to guard its most precious treasures. As soon as the path leaves the forest it gets steepier and rockier. And then you suddenly find yourself hiking between a bare rock wall and a precipice, holding on a rope. There is a place hidden in the heart of Dolomites, guarded by the mighty Sorapis peaks and big groups of ..read more

The Saint Mark's Campanile is the impressive bell tower of the Saint Mark's Basilica in the heart of Venice. It's almost 100 metres high and grants tourists the opportunity to see Venice from above, from a totally different perspective than on a gondola. Obviously having a relaxing ride on a gondola is the most famous and probably the best way to enjoy Venice. Still, seeing the city from above can be a very interesting and rewarding experience as well. I believe this is a city that you can explore in different ways, a city that combines history with a mysterious touch of magic, a city you can ..read more

Exploring pink

Summer is typically the season when I spend more time outside, walking in parks or perhaps in the mountains. The weather is good, and the high temperatures help the vegetation flourish. What I like the most about summer is the warm sun that makes you sweat almost instantly and favours good and bright pictures. During one of my long summer walks I noticed those pink flowers on the side of the path, and started to think. Ever since I completed the Pink spring project, I felt curious about flowers and in particular pink flowers. I felt inspired to consider the idea of making a puzzle with severa ..read more

Swan life

When swans mate, they intertwine their necks. And they mate for life. I believe that says it all, and it's perhaps the main reason why, over the course of history, many writers and musicians depicted swans as a symbol of love, romance, grace, purity and loyalty. I see swans in the same way, although I am not an artist of any sort. I have always been fascinated by the appearance of these long-necked big birds and by the way they move around. They fly with slow wingbeats and with their necks outstretched. They walk on land in quite an elegant and proud but funny way, usually keeping their flexi ..read more

What are the colours of the winter? Which colours best represent this period of the year in which nature and animal life seem to stop? The Polish winter can be challenging at times, especially if you live in the countryside. The pale sun normally visits just a couple of days a week and, even when it does, it stays out for a few hours. Then, temperatures drop way below zero during the dark and long nights. However, this is the same winter that may sometimes offer a slightly different palette of colours to a keen observer of nature. I have to say, observing the sun slowly rising on a cold Janua ..read more

Pelican life

Pelicans are peculiar creatures, typically famous for that big pouch under their beak. They are rather social seabirds who usually travel in flocks and gather in islands. They usually fish by swimming in cooperative groups, using their pouch like a big spoon to catch whatever they can find in the water. Contrary to what many believe, pelicans do not store fish in their pouch but rather use it to catch fish and water, then tip the pouch back to drain the water out, and in the end swallow the fish. I was lucky enough to witness the moments in which they hunt for food. They are so graceful in fl ..read more

The Cascada de Misol-Ha is a beautiful waterfall located in southern Mexico, in the depths of the Chiapas jungle, 20 kilometers from the city of Palenque. The possibility of walking behind the noisy 35 meters high wall of water is a unique experience that not so many waterfalls can offer, and makes this place an incredible memory to bring home. The water plunges into a large, blue, almost circular pool amidst tropical vegetation. The path leading to the cave behind the waterfall is carved between big stone rocks, vegetation and small waterways and waterfalls, and humidity reigns supreme. As a ..read more

The observer

The observer sees everything from a higher perspective, up there where the wind blows stronger and thoughts run faster. From up there the world seems smaller and much more simple than what it really is, and the lives of people look like small interconnected pieces of a unique puzzle. The observer silently watches every person and every problem pass by, but no one notice him. He has his own problems, too, but knows how to camouflage them. The observer hears everything and knows everyone in the forest, and learned how to avoid the bad guys. The observer is very patient and knows where to find n ..read more

The mighty castle of the Teutonic Order is located near the small town of Malbork and the Nogat river, in the north of Poland. If you are on the way to visit the famous city of Gdansk, chances are that you will stumble across this old castle and fortress, and feel the desire to stop and wonder for a while. The castle was built at the end of the 13th century after the conquest of Old Prussia and, at its peak, hosted something like 3000 knights of the Teutonic Order. Nowadays, the castle is one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments, serves as a museum and even hosts interesting exhib ..read more

A peacock in the forest

Forests may look like predictable places, where more or less everything looks always the same, time passes very slowly and nothing special happens. I believe that's a wrong assumption and, if you are patient enough, you never know who you can meet there. I find the silence of the forest very relaxing and intriguing at the same time, because the few sounds your ears capture are very significant. In my mind those sounds are a sort of proof that something alive is hiding there, something that you cannot see but is breathing, feeding or perhaps thinking. I am referring to the sound of an animal m ..read more
