Asymmetrical Add to achieve balanced reading experience? Help.
Optometry Forums

Can one of the experts here please tell me if there is a condition that results in the requirement of an asymmetrical add for reading in an over 50 patient? Once the correct script is determined with the eyes relaxed at optical infinity is it possible that some can require a greater add on one eye to achieve balanced sharpness / focus at reading distance? In this case the script is: OD +1.50 Cyl 0.00 Add +2.00 OS +1.25 Cyl -0.25 Axis 90 Add +2.00 At optical infinity this... Asymmetrical Add to achieve balanced reading experience? Help ..read more

Hey I'm a first year student. I've been working with my financial department to figure out my student loans and they're estimating when all is said and done that my loan will be about $350,000. This seems really high to me, but I'm not sure. Is this typical, or is this excessive? Does anyone have any tips on how how to bring it down ..read more

Hi, I had a lazy eye correction surgery when I was three. As an adult I have had mono vision. In recent years my nearsighted eye has been turning out when I look at objects that are close and my farsighted eye turns out when I look at objects further away. I also have severe dry eyes. I am scheduled for strabismus surgery in November. My questions are it reasonable to expect this surgery to be successful and will my dry eyes cause any complications? Thank you for you time and input ..read more

I recently had cataract surgery, and got a Tecnis Multifocal 2.75 lens in one eye. I don't understand how multifocal lenses work. If I understand properly, they allow vision to be clear at every distance. But how is it possible for the vision to be clear at every distance ..read more

Is my extreme-level visual distortion actually called astigmatism?

My right eye, for about 10 years, sees objects as elongated/stretched about 20 percent, vertically. It also shifts objects slightly to the right, and also slightly higher, compared to my normal left eye. It also tilts all objects a few degrees to the left, like leaning tower of Pisa. I am uploading an image file which I made in Photoshop, which quite accurately shows what I see with my right eye, compared to the normal left eye. An opthalmologist once said this may be caused by either warped... Is my extreme-level visual distortion actually called astigmatism ..read more
