I am getting roasted on Facebook because I want to use a piece of cedar in my tank. I have seen here and on other posts from Tom Barr that it is ok. Please help me make sure it is ok.
About my wood: It is ancient western red cedar that was clear cut in the 50s and has been aged outside for roughly 73 years in the temperate rainforest. It was pure white with no smell and no rot or soft spots. This piece of wood is extremely important to me and is older than the white man in Washington. In the...

For a long time I was struggeling with my plants growth. Finaly I have my plants growing for a bit so now I can focus more on the scape looks. So now I have some questions about replanting plants.
As you can see, my Nymphaea's are planted at a very wrong position. And now they are getting to big and are blocking the front view. They grown from a bulb but this is not connected any more. Can I trouble free root these plant up and replant them on a different place? Or will this kill the plants...

Hey all, I'm starting a 20 gallon planted tank and I'm going to plant grass from seeds into substrate before filling with water. I'm wondering if I should grow the grass and then place my dragon stone on top or can I place my rocks before the grass grows? Thanks, any help appreciated ..read more

Hey Fellas,
I have been intrigued by the hardscape materials from my LFS. What caught my eye recently was Dragon stone.
Dragon stone is made from hardened clay, it is red-brownish with pits on it, it is inert
Do not confuse Dragon stone with Seiryu stone, another popular stone in the hobby.
Seiryu stone is of limestone origin, it is a greyish color with calcite veins, it can affect water parameters.
However, there are times when misinformation is what we read from websites.
My question is...

So I've just started aquascaping and trying out the DSM method as due to Covid it is quite difficult to get all my aquascaping plants and stuffs from overseas. Currently, this is what I have done:
1. Elevated Valley design with Ohko Rocks and Amazonia substrate
2. I have my lighting on for 12hrs everyday and mist it 2 times a day
3. Covered with Saran Wrap and only air it for 30 mins a day
4. I filled the water to at least 1cm to the lowest part of the substrate
Issues:
1. Dry patches of...

Hello everyone, new to the forum.
I'm looking on ideas for how to scape my 20 gallon high. The tank has co2 injection, black blasting sand, and osmocote pellets for fertilization.
In my previous tanks, plants I've had success with are:
-Ludwigia inclinata cuba
-Dwarf sag (I hate this one)
-Dwarf hairgrass (I hate this one)
-Bacopa caroliniana
-Pearlweed
-Red tiger lotus
On hand, I have dwarf sag, dwarf hairgrass, bacopa caroliniana, pearlweed, and two bulbs of red tiger lotus. Those were...

Not something I've seen too often in planted aquariums but I'm hoping a few people with experience will just give me their views and opinions on the system.
I think this system would suit me just right having the filtration built into the end of the display and allow me to access things with ease e.g. filter foam is quickly and easily removed for a rinse through, I'd also not have the pipes to clean through quite the same amongst many other things I would in a conventional external filter....

I’ve never had a particularly deep aquarium but due to a unique set of circumstances I’m getting a 45 g which is ~24” deep. I know lighting will be key so advice on this and on scaping in terms of plant selection and placement would be helpful. It’s coming with a weak LED so I’ve been scouring Amazon for lighting for a 36” tank. I have a bundle of plants coming any day. Plan to use Fluval Stratum, some pool filter sand and media from existing tanks and some that are coming with the tank as I...

Recently got a bio cube 14 gallon and stand for a steal, 200 bucks for both brand new. I was wondering what was a good appropriate co2 tank size that will fit perfectly under the stand? Also if anyone has pictures of their bio cube setup I would be more than happy to view those to get some ideas of how I should set mines up. Thank you ..read more
