Low Tannins Wood

I am in the process of converting my 260gal reef tank to a high tech planted tank and will be purchasing rock and wood in a few weeks. I will be using Dragon Stone because I really like the look of that stone a lot. Very unique looking stone IMO. As far as wood goes, this is where I am having a hard time determining the type of wood. Coming from the reefing community I am a big fan of crystal clear water. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of wood out there releases a lot of tannins turning... Low Tannins Wood ..read more

Seiryu stone.... I think I've made a big mistake

Howdy, I've had my 20g tall set up for about two weeks now and I've been fighting to lower the pH below 7.0. All my other parameters are good, I test them on a 3 day basis right now. I've been adding Seachem Acid Buffer daily (differing doses, but 2<x<6 grams). My gH hasn't budget at around 10* while my kH has dropped from 11* to 7*, as of yesterday. I want to keep cardinal tetras, M. remirazi (German rams), and neocardinia spp., all of which require a slightly acidic environment... Seiryu stone.... I think I've made a big mistake ..read more

I am (almost) don't with my first aquascape and was looking for some opinions on what plants to add to areas #1 & #2. I have been testing things out so there are some small things in place now, but they are in bad shape anyway. I am leaning towards: Pogostemon Helferi OR Dwarf Hygrophila Corymbosa OR Banana Plant OR Moss Pad/Ball (Area #2) *I would want any colored plants to be in a red, blue, or purple color scheme *Full spectrum 9-Watt LED light, 6500 K; I recently had an algae... Hello everyone! I would really appreciate your input on this: I purchased a 90U UNS tank last week from one of the UNS authorized sellers. After picking up the tank, I did not set it up immediately. Today, when I finally set it up with UNS Controsoil and turned on the light, I noticed a small chip on the front middle section. I am inquiring about their policy on damaged products, but if this little damage is nothing to be concerned about then I would just keep this and start planting and... This is for a 29 gallon tank using lava rock. I did a crude Photoshop of the background colors to attempt to help with perspective. I feel like this layout is close to, but not exactly what would be most pleasing to the eye. Notably, this consists of only six stones and not the classic seven. I do have a few other large rocks to work with and several smaller pieces. I will have the soil sloping downward from left to right in the final Aquascape. Would... Iwagumi layout advice ..read more

Instructions on how to trim Water Sprite

HI all. Been a fish keeper for years and I finally setup my first planted tank about a month ago. I planted a sad looking Water Sprite as one of the initial plants and it has since rebounded and grown to take over a pretty decent chunk of my tank. I've got another tank coming Thursday that I'd like to move some trimmings from the plant to, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find specific instructions on how/where to trim Water Sprite. Since I've never done plants, I'm not even super... Instructions on how to trim Water Sprite ..read more
