For travel, I use a Chase Sapphire Preferred. The fee is not too high and it provides decent travel insurance. That may be my best bet. And then add a chase business checking and maybe personal checking. I could keep my cash at Fidelity. Statistics: Posted by MCST — Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:59 am ..read more

Why not delay your spouse SocSec and use that time to do more Roth conversion? KlangFool OpenSocialSecurity confirmed it as the best strategy for us. That is true in isolation, and it is based on average longevity assumptions. Statistics: Posted by EricGold — Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:43 am ..read more

I would not bother with the 'certified' part unless I expected to turn it into a job. Study materials (e.g., used books) are a small fraction of the 'certified' cost Statistics: Posted by EricGold — Tue Apr 23, 2024 12:35 pm ..read more

Interesting thread, lots of opinions, and made me think some more about it. Every family, every child, is different. So what works and is possible for some may not be for someone else. Whatever you do, a lot of what kids pick up is from modeling - they see what you do, how you are, with money, other things, and adopt it or reject it. One thing I realized is that I am not yet a fully functioning adult, since I am still having trouble navigating cell phone plans. CloseEnough, You are underestimating the complexity of cell phone plans. My family member has 10+ years experience in the Telecom ..read more

You can't sit for the exam without having completed the education requirement, so unless you either meet their education criteria or plan to/have the desire to meet it, it isn't worth pursuing. Statistics: Posted by mpklub — Tue Apr 23, 2024 12:26 pm ..read more

The argument from the industry during the court case was that commissions are always negotiable. Real estate agents aren't going to offer lower commissions. Sellers will have to negotiate lower commissions rates with the seller's agent and none or low commissions for the buyer's agent against the insistent from your seller's brokers that that your house won't sell because buyer's agent won't bring buyers to your house if you don't offer the buyer's agent enough. I heard that the details of settlement announcement from the NAR was going to be released until mid-July. Present listing contracts ..read more

Personal Finance (Not Investing) • 1040X processing for taxpayer abroad, 7+ months

I filed a 1040X for 2022's taxes in August 2023. It was a fairly simple change of MFS to MFJ, for a larger refund. Living abroad, I don't have a zip code to enter into the system to check on the status, so I have to call. Six weeks ago, I called the IRS, and the representative said he flagged my return for expedited processing, and that I should either receive a refund or letter asking for more information. He told me to call back in six weeks if I didn't receive anything. I didn't, so I just called back, and got a less competent-seeming representative who just said that they are behind and i ..read more

The website starts with IRS.gov therefore any page under that domain is valid. I suggest you follow their instructions as they clearly have a concern regarding the validity of a return that they have received. They don’t randomly issue such notices. Regarding future rate increases....I am not 100% confident that they will not continue to raise rates in future years...so long as they are hemorrhaging on LTC losses they will file rate increases until their reserves meet whatever criteria the actuaries say is necessary to pay all future claims. Maybe they have finally figured it out but we don't know if their assumptions on utilization are accurate. If they got all their policy holders to agree to change their policies from unlimited to limited benefits that would help...but those polices with unlimited benefits are the ones they are really ..read more
