Rethinking Headware
Dumpshock Forums

This one’s been in the back of my mind for a while. Now, there’s no denying that a headware commlink would be 50 Shades of Awesome™. Imagine your entire digital library only a thought away, and you can experience it all in AR windows that could be your own personal theater. And the rest of your life could be organized with AR, too. Terrible with names? No problem! Your life is basically a video game now as you can have everyone’s name displayed over their head (and add some notes). “John Smith | Branch Manager | NOTES: A total dick.” There are just endless uses for experiencing life via thou ..read more

At long, long, long last – here they are! I’ve spoken about adding things to our House Rules for years, and many of you have helped shape them with your contributions. I promised to post them here when I finished cleaning them up and organizing them, and now they’re finally done (or at least done enough for now). Please enjoy and comment. Character Creation Magic and the Metaplanes The Matrix Gear Critters Additional Rules The Sixth World Optional Rules Still Working On It took so long because these were just all over the place. For years, we’ve had situations where the group thinks something ..read more

Non-Cyber BattleTac Master Components
Dumpshock Forums

So I think I finally figured out how BattleTac Master Components work without an implanted Tactical Computer. The rules appear to mix the terms “master component” and “master unit”, which is unfortunate because the gear list specifically lists a “BattleTac Master Component” and a “Tactical Communication System Master Unit”. The references to “master unit” are of the form “BattleTac master unit”, and thus clearly* do not refer to or depend on the TCS Master Unit, the entire TCS is just an option for the communications backbone (that trades availability, size for the master unit, and range for ..read more

What are an Agent's Response & Signal when independantly loaded?
Dumpshock Forums
by

Been two years since I ran an SR4 game and I can't remember what the Response or Signal for an Agent program is if a hacker uploads it independently onto a node. If it were on the hackers commlink, said commlink's attributes would be use. While Unwired offers some sample nodes for various hubs, there is no listing for say a warehouse security system. I anyone can point to where in the rules this is listed that'd be a big help. Sign-- Wacky ..read more

Do the video games always nerf magic?
Dumpshock Forums

I recently finished the Hairbrained studios trilogy, which I highly endorse. A thought that struck me was how much they nerfed magic relative to the Tabletop. Especially summoning. Of course they also removed most of the spells, but I appreciate it would be challenging to code things beyond simple damage, buff, and heal effects. Then it occured to me that they did the same in the old Sega and NES games (which were amazing games for their time). There were a couple online only games I missed in between, and a mega cd game. I'm curious if nerfing magic is ubiquitous/ inevitable in shadowrun v ..read more

HVAC ducting - new unit of measurement

Ran #3 of my xmas shadowrun's yesterday, which my wife Ali (Tads in the smuggler game) got to play in - which is nice, as they're normally after her bedtime, so she misses out. The players had a simple data-steal job - or so they thought. Got into the building, and found out it was a research lab doing some very dubious work on critters, implanting all kinds of combat cyber-ware. And they had to sneak through some air vents to get to the location to steal the data. One of them asked how big it was. After various messing around and descriptions, I declared that the HVAC conduit was exactly on ..read more

5e Skill Test Rule Clarification
Dumpshock Forums
by
4M ago
I am fairly certain I know the answer to this, but I wanted clarification from the experts (because not everyone at my table agrees). Skills are listed with specific attributes but, in some cases, a rule calls for a different attribute. When this happens, is the alternate attribute IN ADDITION TO the the base attribute, or INSTEAD OF the base attribute? Example: Computer uses Logic (we will assume I have a 4 Skill and a 4 Logic) YET, For a Matrix Search, it says Computer + Intuition (we will assume I have a 3 Intuition) So, would I be rolling 7 dice or 11? 7 = Computer + Intuition (my guess ..read more

Stars and infrared (heat) vision
Dumpshock Forums

For a long time, there existed a question about why we didn't see a brighter sky. Because of the multitude of stars in our galaxy, and the multitude of galaxies in the known universe, coupled with the age of same, it was felt that we should be able to see starlight from every direction. Yet the sky is dark in most places. I think it was Edwin Hubble who gave an answer. The universe is expanding, and the farther away stars and galaxies are the faster they are moving away from us. Because of the Doppler effect, the light from farther luminous objects is shifted into the infrared spectrum, which ..read more
