Hey there y'all, i'm here looking for players for a superhero campaign using the ascendant system. The theme of the campaign is about the journey the players and their characters go through the various ages of superhero history, and to see how superheroes might actually affect the course of the world history. (to give an example, imagine how things would change, if, let's say, captain america or superman traveled alongside the freedom riders. or if Mr. Fantastic actually tried to go public...

Most folks seem to agree that level-draining monsters suck. I don’t know how level drain is handled in more recent editions of D&D, but I remember players recoiling in horror when discovering that a Wight of Vampire destroyed hard-earned XP with a single touch.
What I’m really curious about, is why was this mechanic inserted in early editions of the game? It feels more like a DM “Gotcha!” than a reasonable game mechanic. Like it was there to just surprise uppity players or something.
Is it...

There are a lot of settings that have magic that differs wildly from folklore. Having a new unique magic system is often a key part of defining a fantasy setting.
It seems to me that in settings where there are deities as active as they are in many fantasy settings that it would make sense to have relations between deities and people be drastically different from what we see in folklore and real-world historical and active religions.
I'd like to brainstorm some set ups that involve...

Spun off from this thread about a possible 3.0 retroclone, it occurred to me that I've never seen 3.0e stuff in action before. I think I have a couple of non-updated books that wete 3.0 based (like Monster Manual II) but I never got a look at the core system itself. So what are the differences? There had to be some meaningful ones or else they wouldn't have bothered updating, and it should be interesting to see what direction the game was going in before they changed direction in 3.5...

Some time ago I was browsing DrivethruRPG when I came across a French Sci Fi RPG called, simply enough, "Knight". Alas, there was no English version and I promptly forgot about it. Later, I was browsing again and came across a different game. I found some Youtube videos about that game, but I also found videos about "Knight". Alas, still no English version. But a person can dream.
Then, by happenstance, I noticed the most recent review was about something called "Knight: an...
