Most folks seem to agree that level-draining monsters suck. I don’t know how level drain is handled in more recent editions of D&D, but I remember players recoiling in horror when discovering that a Wight of Vampire destroyed hard-earned XP with a single touch. There are a lot of settings that have magic that differs wildly from folklore. Having a new unique magic system is often a key part of defining a fantasy setting. It seems to me that in settings where there are deities as active as they are in many fantasy settings that it would make sense to have relations between deities and people be drastically different from what we see in folklore and real-world historical and active religions. I think I have a couple of non-updated books that wete 3.0 based (like Monster Manual II) but I never got a look at the core system itself. So what are the differences?
