First, let me say I love Christine Baranski. Her performance as Leonard's mom is wonderful and often hilarious. She's very talented and has great comic timing. Nothing I'm about to say about the character she plays is directed at her. But I'm on my third binge and so not every joke is going to be as fresh as the first time around. I think it ended up getting to a point where the physics were too complicated for him to explain (since Sheldon was previously attached and he's more intelligent than Kripke) and Gen.
