Watch out for "SMUCKER'S SUGAR FREE ORANGE MARMALADE"!! After eating a small amount, about a tablespoon size I developed a dose of neuropathy  in my left foot.  2 days later I tried again to eat a small amount of Smuckers Sugar Free. I got the same results...neuropathy in my foot. The label says only 5 carbs per table spoon and zero sugars. 5 carb foods have never affected me . So I broke out my "refractometer" and took a measurement of smuckers, it showed a reading of 25 BRIX!! A brix reading of 25 is equal to the sugar in Concorde Grapes that are very ripe and sweet. SMUCKERS ..read more

Why does a late night snack always spikes glucose no matter how much insulin added?

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any help or enlightenment would be appreciated.    I’ve experimented with timing many times for my meals.  Now it seems that if I eat anything, whether containing carbs or being relatively carb-free, and consume it after 7:00 pm my glucose will spike during the night. Even if I take extra insulin beyond what it necessary normally for the foods consumed.  This happened before with my normal diet of 200-300 carbs, low- carb diets and even while doing strict healthy ketogenic diets of less than 20 carbs. If I eat a small amount of anyth ..read more

I'm noticing some drastic spikes in blood sugar after consuming erythritol. I know all the research says it's supposed ot have zero affect on blood glucose. Has anyone else experienced spikes from erythritol?   the brand is "Lakanto". It's supposed to be an erythritol monk fruit blend, the only carbs are supposed to be from the erythritol.  ..read more

My keto rant

I really avoid the diabetic forums because they depress me and I don't really need help there when winter rolls around. I’m 56yo and I’m hitting 20 years as a diabetic and 6 yrs on the needle.  Two months ago, I was injecting Humalog 15u and Humulin N 15u twice a day and I was up to an A1C 8.0 I decided I needed to try something.  Over in the UK some other Yanks were talking about keto so I decided to look into it.  Yes I’m a yank. I got the youtube education.  I think DR Boz really likes being on Youtube. I’d buy her book if I know she would just get to the point quicker ..read more

Hello again! Yes, it’s been a while but you’re always my go to people. Since my divorce and rotator cuff surgery and my beloved Maltese health issues my diet is so far off base right now and I shudder to  thank walk my Monday bloodwork is going to look like. I’ve been off Met Forman for about a year now because I was so well-controlled for four years. Being housebound and having to eat whatever I can manage to fix one handed has not been an easy road. I have gained weight and of course it’s carb weight in the middle. I just had to hard-boiled eggs and two hours later glucose 12 ..read more

Freshly diagnosed type 2. Was diagnosed a month or so ago, went to see a dietitian per my doc referral, saw her, and she tells me to keep a food journal (but not change anything yet), also to monitor my bgs per the little meter and test strips. I am absolutely terrified of this diabetes stuff so I do as ordered (of course I DID change the frequency at which I was running to get fast food - it's now down to zero!).   Dietitation now says do low carb diet. She gives me sample menu (protein, greens, healthy fats, mostly). I get new med that i havent started yet (metformin). Thought i'd get u ..read more
