Hi all, I hope we are all keeping well and our training is continuing to improve, after the various disruptions of the last few years. As the thread title suggests, I am looking to return to competing in Kickboxing in the Veterans categories and would be hugely grateful for any advice members can give. In brief, my background is in Muay Thai, Kickboxing and JKD, but due to a serious knee injury I sustained over a decade ago (required four surgeries and many, many months of painful physio... Kickboxing in Sunderland area

Can anyone suggest a kickboxing club in the Sunderland/Seaham area? I'm 48 and thinking of returning to martial arts but my flexibility is pretty terrible. Would this hold me back? I live in Seaham and there is the Ironfist kickboxing club but it looks like there are mostly children there. Also seen JC kickboxing and that also looks like a mostly kids club. I'd like to train to achieve a dream of getting a black belt so anyy help would be great ..read more

Kicking with the instep vs. the shin

This probably has been discussed before, but I did a search and couldn't find this question exactly. FWIW, I come from a solid Karate' background, but I am now studying Muay Thai, which I really like, although I don't intend to compete. I do have a curious question though: In my Muay Thai classes and in some Muay Thai books I've consulted, kicking with the instep is considered a big no-no. They say "You will break the bones in your foot" and "Landing with the shin delivers more power."... Kicking with the instep vs. the shin ..read more

Hey, guys. I wanted to look into learning more about Lethwei, but since there is no Lethwei school where I live and I don’t have enough money to afford a Lethwei seminar, do you guys have any idea where I can buy some videos on Lethwei besides the Foundation of Lethwei by Dave Leduc (I already have it) and New Generation Lethwei by Dave Leduc (which I eventually plan to get ..read more

Arguably the leading exponent of the Sanda style in the world of boxing/kickboxing. He's beaten top thai's such as thanonchai although he came up short against Lerdsila. What do you think of his Sanda Style? I'd like to see him more in MMA personally but I think he'll stay in kickboxing because the pay is better for kickboxers in China even though there is no one in kickboxing on Khabib/Mcgregor money ..read more

In the mid 80s I remember watching PKA kickboxing and there was wild acting fighter named Dennis "Mad Dog" Downey. This guy was off the hook in and out of the ring. The last I heard he was arrested for assault and sent to prison. Does anyone know where he is now ..read more

I've had a fledgling interest in kickboxing for nearly a decade now, and while i really enjoyed K1 in it's day, the lack of info about the 70's, 80's and early 90's has always gotten the better of my curiosity, so, i figured i'd try to start a discussion about it. As i can see there were four guys who laid a claim to being the best before 1993, Dennis Alexio, Branko Cikatic, Stan Longinidis and Maurice Smith, all of them had some claim to the top spot, just as all of them had some tangible... Fang Bian Striking Breakdown

Video here profiling Fang Bian one of the most unorthodox and successful kickboxers of recent times. For those who don't know he was on a 60 fight winning streak before becoming inactive. He has a very strong left leg attack which a lot of fighter's have had problems getting past. What do you think is the perfect antidote to his style? Power roundhouse kick? Head movement? Lateral movement ..read more
