Happy July! Once again, there are so many great storytelling events happening online as well as in the DC, MD, and VA areas. In this month’s list, there are a number of cool shows and events. Some are related to activism for women or those with disabilities. Then there are things like The Capital Fringe (https://capitalfringe.org/events/?)! It’s pretty common that some one-person shows are great stories but are not necessarily listed as storytelling events. There are even a few new storytelling events added to the reoccurring list at the bottom. While I normally only cover the DC, MD, and VA ..read more

Another month is upon us, spring is in full swing, and storytelling shows are growing in full abundance. There are multiple days with multiple shows. So choosing might be hard. Wish I could help you choose, but I’m going to have the same trouble myself. While I normally only cover the DC, MD, and VA area, with all shows being online now, I have broadened my scope of storytelling so you can broaden your scope of story listening. With that in mind, do take a look at the Virginia Storytelling Alliance (VASA) Website (https://virginiastorytellingalliance.org/events/) as well as The National Story ..read more

I get to do cool things. I get to ride fire engines for a living. My high school prom was held in a German castle. I’ve been to Capitol Hill and talked to politicians. It’s not that I’m a cool person; I’m just cool by proxy. I happen to be in places where cool people are, doing cool things, and I get included. This last Saturday, I was again in a cool place, with cool people, doing cool things. I did my first ever TEDx Talk. Wow! It’s kind of a “dog catching the car” moment. I started the year with the goal of doing 3 TEDx talks over the next 5 years. I figure what a cool way to end my workin ..read more

April has arrived, and I get to do 2 awesome events. I’ll perform with Story Extreme next week (10 Apr), talking about Awkward conversations. There is still time to get those tickets. On 22 Apr, I’m excited to announce I’ll be doing my first-ever TEDx talk in Woodbridge, VA. I’ll get to combine comedy, storytelling, and the fire service into 18 mins of talking to folks. Seating will be limited. Keep up with both of these events by clicking on the link below. Hope to see you there! https://wordpress.com/page/storiesjokesandfolks.com/75 ..read more

The Women’s Storytelling Festival is once again coming to Fairfax, VA, 24 – 26 Mar 2023 (https://www.bettersaidthandone.com/womens-festival/ ), and I am excited to help once again! Women from all backgrounds and storytelling genres will tell stories that will make you laugh, cry, gasp, and scream. Sometimes, all in the same story! In the four years that I have helped in the festival’s background, I’ve enjoyed the performances of these tellers in the foreground. Over the years, not only have I been able to enjoy their performances, but I have learned from their wisdom and inner workings of tel ..read more

Connecting Storytellers and Storylistners 2023 (Workshops and Coaching)
Story Telling On Purpose Blog
by Nick Baskerville

In 2019, I did a series of blog posts highlighting storytelling workshops in the DC, MD, and VA area. If you are a beginner to a storytelling vet, taking a class or workshop is a great way to get feedback or work through tough spots in stories. I’ve been telling stories since 2014. Since then, I have taken workshops with Better Said Than Done, the Armed Services Armed Partnership (ASAP), and The Stoop Storytelling series. In 2020 I got some one-on-one coaching with Jeff Simmermon. Each time I’ve come away with great stories to use later. Since the Pandemic, a number of storytellers and story ..read more
