In this episode, Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott discuss the questions of the month relating to two of the most interesting EVs currently on the market, but quickly redeem themselves by discussing decades-old gasoline powered cars including Jason’s upcoming Revelations episode on the C4 Corvette ZR1, and Derek’s BTS episodes on the Honda NSX Type-R and Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. In the latest and thoroughly overdue episode of The Carmudgeon Show, the boys spend an hour or so discussing their latest video projects: Jason’s just released Icons episode about the G80 M3 (which necessitates revisiting the E30 M3 and E46 M3 and of course the W201 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16), and Derek’s upcoming BTS with DTS episodes about the Lexus LFA and NA1 Honda NSX-R. They also discuss the recent rally they attended, which was not without drama (one car flew off a cliff) and their preferred type of driving and how certain cars are and aren’t suited to that. On that topic, Jason and Derek co ..read more

Why We Love to Hate McLarens, Except the GOAT of Course (the F1) — The Carmudgeon Show — Ep. 43

by ISSIMI inc.

It’s no secret that neither Jason nor Derek love contemporary McLarens, despite them being objectively quite good. In this episode, they discuss the reasons why they feel this way, and also how modern McLarens are like a variety of foods including mirepoix, Mexican food, and turkey soup. Incidentally the exact opposite of these reasons is why they are both so enthusiastic about the McLaren F1 and the upcoming T.50. Naturally, this content is preceded by and interlaced with requisite tangents about 911s, e-Golfs, and Mark I Volkswagens. Also of note is Derek mentioning not one but two rear-engi ..read more

visit: www.issimi.com Where is the geographic center of gravity of the automobile industry? And what is a geographic center of gravity anyway?  In this episode, Jason and Derek discuss the idea that there’s a country at any given time that dominates the automotive industry, either in terms of technical innovation or marketplace impact. Jason suggests that it currently lies in Korea, and explains how Kia and Hyundai are breaking genuine ground, but also argues that there’s a shift happening back to America for the first time in many decades. But not to Detroit. The pair then explore the ..read more

visit: www.issimi.com Jason and Derek start this episode by discussing their upcoming video projects, on the Renault R5 Turbo 2 and the 1973 Porsche Carrera RS respectively. Derek is gobsmacked by the driving experience of the RS and Jason reluctantly admits that the 911 is one of the best driver’s cars of all time, despite his outspoken distaste for their pervasiveness. He also sings the praises of the upcoming Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder again, this time in the context of the sobering realization that the end of the internal combustion engine is on the horizon. Jason and Derek took a road trip in a Corolla and the car wasn’t great. Then they took one in an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and it *was* great. Jason also installed a factory retrofit digital instrument cluster for his Lotus Elise, as well as a modification from 034Motorsport which allowed him to achieve 1.07g of lateral acceleration from...his e-Golf!? Derek responds to a listener’s question about the difference between the Mercedes 400E and 500E, which starts a discussion about gearing and how it can make or break a car. Jason always prefers shorter gearing except for in one car. He als ..read more

The Carmudgeon Show is back! ...for now. And so too is the Nissan Z, and it’s a looker. But fear not, Jason and Derek are able to find things to complain about when it comes to the 400Z Proto. And speaking of complaining, they are less than enthusiastic about the heinous looks of the new G80 and G82 BMW M3 and M4. In the course of discussing updates, it emerges that Derek has bought his first EV, which launches a discussion about the Lucid Air, a spectacular, world-altering all-new EV which Jason describes as Tesla 2.0...and he seems to be genuinely excited about both the company and the car ..read more

The official "ISSIMI" t-shirts are here!    https://teespring.com/stores/issimi-shop Like a magnificent grand piano that needs to be tuned, you can drive a vintage car that drives nothing like it should. How, where, and who maintains a car can influence how it drives, even more than any inherent goodness or badness from the factory. There is some variation between cars when new, but it’s minimal — the big difference comes from how they’re treated by their owners. And, perhaps more important, the competence level of the mechanic works on them.  Derek postulates that one-owner c ..read more

How much ground clearance do you need in an apocalypse vehicle? After all, running over zombies might damage the cooling system on your venerable Mercedes W123—which otherwise will be the official car of the cockroach, long after all other life forms on Earth have ended. Surely we all know (except Derek) that Zombie Apocalypse vehicles need to be diesels, lest the zombies deactivate your spark-ignition system with their ray-guns. So that leaves out the Land Rover Defender gasoline versions, though those would just break down anyway. What about a Toyota Land Cruiser? Mercedes G-Class? Suzuki S ..read more
