Metris camper build revisited

A few years ago we had this idea of creating a modern Westy using the Metris as a platform (knowing that Peace Vans already has their take on this). Lots of designing ensued along with research into pop-tops, electrical systems, modular furniture, etc. We learned that new Metris sales would be discontinued in the USA after which we turned our focus to the Sprinter and Transit and then eventually went non-van with our FJ. Fast forward to now and I'm thinking about my next camper/daily and the... Metris camper build revisited ..read more

Ever since I bought my used Metris (145k miles at that point) there was a knocking noise in the front suspension when going over potholes, etc., also in fast freeway curves the out front wheel seemed to kind of wobble. that disappointingly didn’t disappear when I upgraded my suspension with AdvCo springs and Bilsteins (see my thread on that built). then I hoped it would be the swaybar bushings recently one of the Bilsteins failed and used the opportunity to check the lower control arm’s... Last autumn I was a bit confused. i had to drive to an appointment but it turned out I still had an hour to spare. Or so I thought. Good that I checked with my phone and there was a difference of one hour in comparison with the dashboard clock although I never changed it. It turned out that the Metris clock is on German schedule annd is andjusting anccordingly by itself. In Germany the change from Daylight Savings Time to regular time is 3 weeks earlier than in California. a month ago I... Fun fact: the Metris is on German Daylight Savings Time cycle ..read more

Mercedes-Benz Metris Forum

Good day everyone. I wanted to share an unfortunate experience and get some feedback or advice. So last September my AC stopped blowing cold air, followed by an electric burn smell and noise that one could guess was the Compressor going out. I brought it in about a month later to a local shop and they confirmed the Compressor was toast. They recommended replacing the Condenser also. Total cost $2500 parts and labor, taxes included. My question is this though: What caused the AC system to... AC Compressor Issues ..read more

Good day everyone! I own 2019 Mercedes Metris passenger, and already have 66K miles on the odometer. Recently, I ran out of gas while driving to gas station. The engine turned off, a bunch of lights came on, it switched to neutral and rolled until stopped. I was able to push it off the highway to a shoulder, get some gas and fill it in. After that the engine started - it coughed a few times and in 10 minutes it was running normal again. The check engine light disappeared the next day... Rear differential Fluid Venting - seen this?
Mercedes-Benz Metris Forum
by naive_re

I've had 2 occasions recently, successive trips, that have resulted in fluid venting from the differential in my 2016 cargo van. The first trip was about 275 miles, almost entirely highway driving. After that trip I parked on my asphalt driveway. A couple of days later I drove around town doing some errands, maybe 20 miles of routine city driving. I parked the van in my garage after that trip. I then noticed the fluid on the asphalt where the rear differential had been. A quick look under... Rear differential Fluid Venting - seen this ..read more
