Hi I lost my border collie last year he had been suffering from seizures but he ended having clusters they felt he could of had a mass on his brain as the seizures became more forceful and affected his ability to walk or stand. So he was put to sleep he was 14. I am thinking of having another one in our family but the question I want to ask is do all border collies suffer seizures. I no his sister hasn’t had any but I’m afraid to go there again after what he went through. I have had 2 bus in the past they didnt. So I just want to no if it is the case they do many thanks Tracy ..read more

Safest Crates for airplane travel

Hello guys, My boy Ragnar and myself will be ready to take part in our first agility competition soon and we will have to travel by plane to get there. I have never traveled with a pet on a plane and the whole process is making me very anxious. What are the safest crates you would suggest that are also approved for air travel? We have a crate at home but it cannot be used in this case. Thank you ..read more

Dog Socks

We are looking to get serious about scent work/nose work and maybe even trial.  Part of the training building that we use has what Piper deems a "slippery floor".  She will walk on it, but slides and stresses.  And I'm thinking that we could encounter such things down the road at different venues.  I'm looking for some non-skid dog socks.  Anyone use them or know anything about them?  Thanks for any input ..read more

We adopted Charley as a 2 year old and now he is turning 13. We moved from NEPA and 23 acres to FL and nowhere to be off leash.  He just got over a case of pancreatitis but has been doing well. In the past few weeks there have been a couple episodes that have me concerned.  He growled at my sister in law when she came out of the bathroom. I wasn’t there to correct him but it never happened before. My husband was on the floor adjusting our new fridge and Charley snapped at his face. People laying on the floor has always been an issue, his first owner died. But hubby was kneeling so di ..read more

I have an opportunity to acquire a 4 mo old smooth coat pup bred from a working sire and bitch on a WY ranch.  I'm told he is currently about 22lbs. I'm thinking that would likely place him in the mid 40lbs range as an adult. The folks offering him are recent transplants, and due to a tough family situation need to re-home the pup ASAP. We have a meet and greet scheduled. Truthfully, I did not anticipate acquiring another bc as a permanent family member, especially not a puppy! (I haven't had a pup this young since the 90's and swore never again-LOL) All of my bc's  (he would be my 5 ..read more

I am looking into getting another pup for agility. My 5.5 year old border collie/heeler mix has never really taken to it but I love it. I have been looking at a breeder for an AKC Border Collie whose parents would both be herding dogs but my current dog likes dogs that are smaller than her. She is 35lbs. I was told and have liked the Borderpap mix but wonder what people's thoughts are on them for agility. I also wonder where you find these mixes.    Thank you ..read more

Hey guys, sorry for the long post, i would love some ideas regarding my border collie who is a picky eater. Ragnar is 2 y/o, male, not neutered and a working line BC. So far I have fed Hills and Taste of the Wild puppy kibble (high in protein), up to when he turned one year old as we wanted him to gain a few kilos because he is quite long but thin (and athletic). At that stage we switched to Purina Pro Plan Chicken. The changes in kibble are due to the fact that he gets easily bored of eating the same kibble over a prolonged period of time (and of course my fault for not persisting). We switch ..read more

Can we be to soft with a collie I feel my 5 year old is running rings round me at times He is for ever stealing and picking up things which he shouldn’t have The box of tissues, an envelope, a glove or hat anything which might have been left out, I think I may have made it worse by inadvertently rewarding him by taking the object off him and giving a small treat Now he seems to think that he can pick anything up bring it to me and I will treat him. I do say no in a firm voice but should I be doing something else    ..read more

I have a 4 yr old collie cross bitch who suffers from anxiety.  Last New Years Eve I sedated her with Sileo.  It's an expensive prescription drug that has to be dosed and monitored carefully.  My usual vet refused to prescribe it but an experienced behaviourist vet from another practice helped out. That was in the context of general extreme anxiety issues which have since been resolved.   I only have one more tube of Sileo which I resolved to save for the 2023 Solstice/ Xmas/ New Year festivities.  I live in a quiet area but local youths use the field at the back of my ..read more
