I can hear the fan clutch squealing. It seems to be working fine. But, it has gotten noisy. It actually sounds like a loose belt. But, it is the fan clutch. Does this always mean that the fan clutch needs to be replaced ..read more

I have a 1991 300 TE–24V M104 engine with the following symptoms: Use the vehicle up to warm (doesn’t have to reach 80 degrees C), sometimes only a 15 min drive Leave the vehicle for 30 mins – 1 hr (this is vital since if I restart the car immediately, there is no issue) Upon restart, sometimes the car would misfire, but not all the time Sometimes switching the car off then starting it back up immediately would make it normal Other times it may have difficulty starting, or misfire would continue and car would have no power with low idle rpm and rough running. (Some times I would restart 20+ t ..read more

77 240D Rear End Noise

Hi All. I'm trying to track down a noise that appears to be coming from the rear of my car. It only occurs in right-hand turns at speed like on a twisty road, with the car leaning to the left, and it's clearly coming from behind me as I drive. The sound is like a grinding or rumbling sound. I've crawled under and had a good look around. the flex disks are all good, not new but show no cracking and are still supple. The center bearing support, likewise, appears to be in good shape with no cracking or obvious issues. The axles appear to have quite a few years on them but the boots are in good c ..read more

I was shopping tonight and I was getting some bulk flour and I heard a very soft song being sung. I was not sure what it was at first then I realized it was an Irish Shanty. It was quite faint and I figured someone was phone playing. When I rounded the corner I saw one of your staff stocking some bulk food and singing the Shanty. I stood there for a few minutes listening until he turned around and realized I was there. We spoke for a few minutes. He shared that he grew up with music in the household and that he liked Shanty's. It made my day apparently more than I realized. I went up front to ..read more

'84 federal 617turbo swap into '88 c1500

I've been considering this relatively underpowered diesel 2x4 truck build. I want to use as much Mercedes as I can fit into the c1500, and fabricate to fit what I can't. My intention is for this truck to be my toolbox that can stack a bit of supplies around town, or haul a single axle trailer similarly. I'm shooting for 20mpg, thinking I could end up doing a little bit better with this build. I like the feel of the truck itself (single cab long bed Silverado) with it's current 5.7L V8/ 700r4 4spd/ 3.42 RWD, but it has transmission, crank and oiling issues, old computer, etc. A good candidate ..read more

FS W210 Rims

I have two sets of Mercedes W210 rims and snow tires that will also fit the W124 chassis (which is what I've used them for). The tires are Michelin X-Ice and Nokian studded Hakkapeliitta. The Michelins are 12 years old and the Nokians are 20 years old (!). Both both sets of tires have decent tread depth and no signs of dry rot or cracking...but obviously they are old. Both sets of rims are in good condition. For many years I've had dedicated rims with snow tires for my W211 and W124 Mercedes. But I've decided to simplify things and only put snows on the W211 so no longer need the other rims ..read more

Anyone know the spec for the o-rings on the M110 pressure relief valve?

The fuel distributor on the M110 K-jetronic fuel distributor has a pressure relief valve with two o-rings. One big, one small. Somewhere I found a site that said they were A007 and A011 and another site said this is spec AS-568A which says it is ID=7.65 OD = 11.21 and CS = 1.78 using Nitrim seal. However, the o-ring I collected is too thin. Does anyone know what the actual OEM size is for the small and large o-rings? These would be the specs (ID/OD/thickness cross-section) to provide to a generic o-ring supplier. Attached Thumbnails     ..read more

Transmission service-then lower rpm on hwy?

I did a transmission fluid and filter change including the torque converter on my 90 300d 2.5 turbo. I don't know when it was last done, but probably quite a while ago. Now I think I am seeing slightly lower RPM on the highway at 65mph. Before it was easily 2700 rpm, now around 2600 rpm at 65Mph. Its barely noticeable, but I think I'm not just imagining the difference. Also shifts better of course and seems to have a little more power. I'm glad I did it, and now have to do the service in my new to me 95 e300d, which seems also to be at 2700rpm at 65. I think it has the same gear ratios and rea ..read more
