Yet again a 2 star forecast, and even less convinced studying different forecasts as time moved on. But with nothing else planned and living close by I could afford to wait and see. Eventually it was now or never and headed to Carats (Hove) with my big kit, the new to me RRD Firemove and my new to me 8.5 twin cam Ezzy and my 6.6. Opted for the 8.5 as I have never rigged it and thought the wind would drop. Instead I launched at 4pm and got a solid hour and a half full power in plenty of sunshine. Lancing summarises it as 18 to 22 knots, which weirdly is exactly what I had last time with a 6.6 a ..read more

Didn't expect a sail this week but spotted a 2 star forecast for late afternoon in Hove. Just what I wanted to try out my new toy, a 123l RRD Firemove. Initially rigged my 6.6 but could see the wind increasing. With a massive 46cm fin I was absolutely flying but surprisingly controllable in the chop. Gybing was a lot more challenging. Changed down to try out my brother's 6.0m twin cam Ezzy. Still stacked but more manageable. And so fast Lancing weather cam recorded about 18 to 22 knots. Two others out with a 5.0 (former C in C) and a 5.8, and the usual wingfoil crew. Overall should have been ..read more

There was a meeting to decide whether it would be best to change sail sizes for the 2028 Olympics in iQFoil. It has been decided to drop the sail sizes from 9m to 8m for the men and from 8m to 7.3m for the women. One important reason is the health of the riders, as some people would have to put on a lot of weight to optimise their competitiveness. Kiran Badloe originally put on fat as it was the fastest way to get to an iQFoil weight, but he is very tall - so he can have a healthy muscular weight to suit iQFoil. Taller sailors always have the advantage of greater leverage for racing - but iQ ..read more

Yesterday at Brook it was very windy, & quit up & down, X shore. 4 windsurfers out, which is about as may as we get. 6 kites, including me. Waves were a bit closely spaced, so all in all, hard work. Statistics: Posted by Pad IoW — Tue Apr 16, 2024 4:24 pm ..read more

11.30-2.30 KBay Broadbench epic x-shore head to mast in the sun with about 10 others including Jamie Hancock skying huge arials. Stupidly changed up to 4.7 at last minute before heading out as Mike initially wasn't going too well on 4.2...but soon turned out to be full nukage. At least small board choice was right and got back unscathed (just!). Statistics: Posted by Charlie W — Thu Apr 11, 2024 11:09 am ..read more
