Maybe not a thread really, I apologize. You may delete if not appropriate. I just discovered this site. Just wanted to share part of my story… Gosh, it must have been 5-10 years ago, but now I remember you said in order to get better, I have to go through the tears. And I wasn't quite sure what you meant, because I didn't see where the tears would come from. And you said you cried, you cried, and you cried. I think I get it now. All catharsis. It's not just pain. It's feeling the pain... Just inspiration for therapy ..read more

In this unit, we discussed the way that people learn through different philosphical ideologies. One of the concepts that resonated with me the most was social constructivism, it reminds me of the teachers who had the biggest impact on my yound mind. Allowing us to explore and gently prodding us in the right direction, such as the social learning theory, allows for more development intellectually by incorporating out of the box thinking. Being able to come up with unorthodox solutions as well... Journal VII ..read more

Erikson's Psychosocial Theory

In this unit of development, Erikson's theory intrigued me the most as it made the feelings and tribulations we go through up to adulthood feel like a neatly laid out plan. In actuality, these clean cut boxes that he created are such major life stages for us and the growth that results as a person fumbles through them cannot be understated. I think it is interesting that adulthood has such large boundaries whereas childhood is divided into yearlong chunks for the first couple stages, but it... Erikson's Psychosocial Theory ..read more

Hey there, I was wondering whether anybody can help me with this, please: I remember once reading about some kind of "counter-weight" or "counter-balancing" theory, which proposes that traumatic incidents which a child or teenager might be subjected to or witness - even most severe ones like chronic domestic and/or sexual violence - may be countered to a certain degree, insofar as more positive influences in their lives can provide a kind of balance. Or at least some kind of buffer against... Positive influences which may balance early exposure to violence ..read more

Logical question that insanity defense is too narrow when it comes to testing adults who are delusional

Do you really have to be legally insane just to get mental health treatment after committing a crime, especially when you are an adult? I am sometimes delusional, think irrationally and sometimes become aggressive when I am scared and still know right from wrong. I mean, come on! I am an adult, 21 years old, of course I know right from wrong, I was thought to know right from wrong for the past 21 years, I am an adult, not a 15 year old. I think the insanity defense test is useless to test... Logical question that insanity defense is too narrow when it comes to testing adults who are delusio ..read more

When I was a child, about 9 or 10 years old I "soiled" myself. My mother was not nice about it all she did was bitch and complain and humiliate me. And, after I felt ashamed of myself and my body. To the point that I couldn't walk from my bedroom to the bathroom without a shirt on. Later on I started to feel like no girl would want anything to do with me or would ever have sex with me. There was a girl when I was a teenager who did everything she could to let me know she liked me and... Trauma ..read more
