So many people on here from such vastly different backgrounds and education levels. So much to learn from so many people in so many places and environments. I hope everyone is well and your systems are doing well Mal Statistics: Posted by mal5000 — Fri Dec 08, 2023 1:14 am ..read more

Hi, also in Melbourne, used to have a system when I lived in emerald and can confirm rainbow trout are awesome, except things get exciting exciting if you haven't eaten them all by the time the heat waves begin, especially when days are 30+ degrees C and nights are >25 degrees. Hi Sammo, so sorry to hear about you dismantling the system - would you share your learnings and reasons why you are stopping? I haven't had my own system for several years after moving houses a few times, planning to start a new system soon and keen to learn what's changed in the aquaponics scene. I still drop in on rare occasion, but there is rarely any new activity that warrants a comment. I'm still running the same two systems for almost 10 years now with reasonably good success and good stability. I don't kill many fish by accident anymore. From the posts above it makes it sound like AP is hard on marriages! Thankfully my wife realized I am cuckoo many years ago and she is able to deal with it. I definitely miss the old timers and activity from a few years back with Brian, Faye, TCLynx, and so many others that were incredibly helpful when I was getting started. Cheers to all. Yes I am another one of those who has had a marriage bust up and had to move house and leave my good greenhouse behind. I am now in a rented house which has its drawbacks. Also I was having trouble with people stealing my Fish and thought to hell with it .I now have a small hydro system which is going well.I am also trying using food to be my medicine which is looking good.It could all be used in aquaponics as well. The other thing that cheesed me off was that if I posted something there were always a few who that would knock the idea and at the same time prove that they didn't know what they w ..read more

Good to see some people are still here. I am like F&F look in but don't comment too much. I do have a system up and running again but I have had a few issues after many years away from aquaponics. I am also like Kheroot dealing with divorce after trying to keep everyone happy and not being myself. Kheroot I hope everything is now good again. I hope everyone here is in a good place and growing lots of food for the table. Statistics: Posted by mal5000 — Mon Oct 16, 2023 1:45 am ..read more

Water is also rather murky. Am raising pH slowly, and at same time will clean out the grow bed and wash the LECA - hasn't been done for 3 years. Statistics: Posted by tlin05 — Wed Sep 27, 2023 12:35 am ..read more

Looks pretty good to me.The PH could be up a bit. The NO2 is 0 so the Ammonia is getting sorted out & the NO3 is at good levels. Nothing to be worried about!. Statistics: Posted by 7341 — Mon Sep 18, 2023 2:25 pm ..read more

To answer my own question: Yes, I need to raise the pH before the fish do become stressed. Statistics: Posted by tlin05 — Mon Sep 18, 2023 1:30 am ..read more

Hi, I have a 3 year old, 800L IBC system, with 8 adult silver perch in Melbourne. Fish "seem" ok and I have a semi-full growbed in which the plants are also doing ok. I don't check water chemistry all that often as nothing much changes. However my most recent testing (API test kit) gave the following results: pH: < 6.0 (API kit doesn't go below 6 but colour is darker yellow than chart) Ammonia: 0.5 -1.0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 20-40 ppm It has stayed at these levels for the past 3 weeks. Not sure if I should be worried and try to adjust. Thanks for any advice. Statistics: Posted by ..read more
