Yeah... starting out very small and little.... and with a boxed solution. On a Black Friday sale, I got these AeroGardens for $35 a piece. They are pretty cool, as they come with the plant pods, fertilizer and the water containers have a pump to keep the water moving. The lights are advertised to be the correct tints and colors to maximize photosynthesis and they are on sensor timers. I think they are on 17-18 hours a day. In the first one, we are growing Italian Herbs and in the... Small-Fry Solution ..read more

I have a stock tank full of water eight goldfish about four inches long. I came into a 40 lb bag of diamond puppy dry dog food, free. That is more than my little buddy could eat in a year, maybe two years. I have started tossing an occasional handful in the stock tank. Prior to this I didn't feed them anything. Does anyone else feed there fish dog food ..read more

I'm excited about this one! Red Lady papaya is a self pollinating dwarf variety of papaya. Supposed to flower 3-4 months after germination. Germination is supposed to be 2-3 weeks but I managed to cut that in half with rapid rooter plugs. The first one germinated and it was trying to get to the window in a short container. I caught the other 2 as they germinated today and hopefully they will be sturdier plants. 75% germination rate so far. [ATTACH... Papaya ..read more

I've decided I'm going to go nuts and experiment with growing some fish this year. I love catfish and they're pretty hardy. I've raised them in the past, but in a pond. I don't have a pond here, so this is going to be quite new for me. Here's what I have: Old above ground Intex pool. I think it's 18x48. Pump Lots of room Lots of seeds No top soil Determination Here's what I plan to do: Our yard has been scraped and dug up. The resulting grass is doing great, along with local plants. My... Has anyone achieved a high degree of success in raising food for fish? I know it is possible to raise worms. Duckweed is easy to grow. I have heard that some fish will eat wheat grass. Has someone developed a systematic approach to make sure that fish get all of the nutrients that they need ..read more

Farming Fish In Fresh Water Is More Affordable And Sustainable Than In The Ocean

A tidal wave of interest is building in farming the seas. It’s part of a global rush to exploit oceanic resources that’s been dubbed the “blue acceleration.” Optimistic projections say that smart mariculture – fish farming at sea – could increase ocean fish and shellfish production by 21 million to 44 million metric tons by 2050, a 36%-74% jump from current yields. Other estimates suggest that an ocean aquaculture... Click to expand... Farming Fish In Fresh Water Is More Affordable And Sustainable Than In The Ocean ..read more

This is a great way of preserving water and nutrients in container gardening! Our garden this last year was constructed out of 55 gallon drums and 55 gallon drum halves using these principles. Saved a lot of time, effort, money, and materials! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSDYs9sd2_BlLuWSiEr7TJQ Anybody else follow interesting Gardening pages ..read more
